and I can’t quite believe how poorly Suspiria expanded, was figuring a 90% PTA drop at worst and this is well past that.

Last weekend it was in only 2 theaters (in the areas where it was always going to play best) and had Q&As after some of the shows which inflated the gross. I doubt anyone ever expected a 2.5 hour remake of a semi-obscure horror movie that's barely Fresh on RT to play well beyond that limited crowd.

And at Fox Monday they will be singing "We Are The CHampions

Anybody notice the term Lukewarm when used by entertianment reporters is usually a polite way of saying "It bombed",because the is what is happening with "The Nutcracker", to the surprise of no one. I suspect Disney knew it had a bomb onit's hands.given

they spent alot less then they usually do on marketing.

I don't see how The Nutcracker's opening can be described as anything other than bombing. It's not like it's a Christmas release that could have a 6 or 7 multi. And no Thanksgiving will not help it because people will be too busy seeing Wreck-it-Ralph. It needed a decent opening and good word of mouth. I seriously doubt that it will have good word of mouth.

Sure, just like after we get a Lennon bio pic we'll get one for the lead singer of Herman's Hermits who may or may not have been called Herman

Nice to see Bohemian Rhapsody kicking ass. I'll be interested to see how the demos shake out; it's obviously going to play mostly to adults, but a surprisingly high number of my students have been buzzing about it for the last couple weeks, so I could see a little youth appeal there too.

Not surprising to see The Nutcracker falter as badly as it did. It never seemed like Disney really had their hearts in their promotion of the film, and it's performing accordingly.

Undeperformances by Beautiful Boy and Suspiria in their limited expansions aren't surprising amid the relatively muted reception for the former and the extremely divisive nature of the latter.

Queens music is way more popular than KISS lmao. They have some of the most popular songs of all time. No one but old people will watch a kiss biopic.

They also have unbelievable Wembley'86 live perfomance. Best live video ever. And very popular.

Grinch should do well next weekend.

Fantastic Beasts will likely do ok. Widows will do Sicario 1 & 2 numbers. Green Book would be a modest earner.

Ralph 2 will do well. Creed II may make respectable returns. Robin Hood looks good but it will bomb not too big of one. I see Assassin’s Creed numbers.

November 2018 should be fine. December will have 3-4 hits with some  bloodbathed bonbs.

overall my thoughts on 2018 films:

really liked to liked:

Deadpool 2

Halloween

Spy Who Dumped Me

Equalizer 2

Jurassic World: Fallen kingdom

eh:

Life Of The Party

Ocean’s 8

hated:

Black Panther

Skyscraper

Overall box office: Good to see Bohemian Rhapsody do well this weekend, well deserved for Fox after not having a hit since Deadpool 2. Should do $130-$135 million domestic.

Nutcracker looked like shit and it bombed bigger than normal. Everyone realized that not all live-action Disney film this year are so great and wonderful.

Nobody’s Fool will do well off an lower budget for Paramount, which is quite wise for them after last year was such a big struggle.

Halloween getting hit this weekend isn’t surprising but no matter what is a massive profit for a horror slasher flick.

Star Is Born is holding quite strong. Which is insanely good. Considering I remembered when it was going to be a summer release that it would do just Great Gatsby numbers.if $200 million does happen then that’s excellent for WB!

Venom is alive and $200 million+ happening is good but not surprising. So Ant Man 2 numbers aren’t surprising.

Hunter Killer dying off... who cares

Goosebumps, Hate, and Snowfoot are doing ok. Goosebumps should do $50 million, Hate U Give should do $25-$30 million, and Snowfoot should sneak past $80 million.

Wikipedia has Outlaw King's budget at 130M :o

So, how are movies like this possibly financially feasible?

Netflix has shitloads of money and they reliably take in even more shitloads of money every month. Plus they're up to their knees in debt and stuff. So basically they can afford to throw money at the wall to make stuff like Outlaw King.
