Mile 22 budget was $35 million. No way is IF more expensive

edit: BO says Mile 22 budget is 50M, but variety says 35. It's safe to say that IF is in no way budgeted at 48M

Forbes have the $48m number too.

It seems too specific to be “made up”.

it's such a huge problem in the UK industry. at least in the US there's some vague idea of anyone from anywhere can make it big but if you don't come from money in the UK it's impossible. people like mcavoy, idris elba or gary oldman are such rare exceptions. benedict cumberbatch is literally a distant relative of Richard III.

What about Tom Hardy ?

Bohemian Rhapsody is likely gonna end up with a higher worldwide total than Fantastic Beasts 2 which is both impressive for the former and embarrassing for the latter (given what an overseas juggernaut the series was supposed to be).

$700m on a $55m budget is more than what Fox were hoping for. It also means that the floodgate will open for more music biopics.

It's interesting or rather disconcerting in that it's becoming more insular.  There were far more working class UK actors coming up in the 30s to 90s - even if they played posh they weren't.

Drama schools seemed to be more inclusive and diverse before.  Ad as always 90%+ of actors are unemployed, even those that regularly get jobs are often unemployed for long stretches.  It's easier to survive long term until you "hit" it if you have that financial backing from family.

Speaking of FB2. Depp really is cursed. The first HP universe movie that got such brutal reviews. And Richard says Goodbye and City of Lies look to be DOA.  Waiting for the Barbarians sounds intriguing, but it likely won't do much BO wise. He should take a break and not accept every role that comes his way. be more discerning

Mary Queen of Scots will be expanding to 70 theaters (ahead of its “wide” expansion on the 21st) while Ben is Back will be expanding to 30 next weekend according to BOM.

The Favourite will be in 525 theaters.

I'm surprised MQOS is expanding on a day with so many new releases, surely they should have waited until the week after or January

They probably figure at this point that it won’t factor much at all in the Oscar race so they might as well try to make as much as they can off of it.

The budget is $25m so it'll likely be a modest success for Focus.

It’s not that often that we see $600-700M+ WW-grossers that aren’t your typhical blockbusters like CGI-spectacles, animated films, disaster-films, creature-feature, superhero-films, spy-films, adventures, sci-fi, fantasies and such.

There’s some rare genres like horror with The Sixth Sense & It, religious films like The Da Vinci Code & The Passion of the Christ, and musicals like the first Mamma Mia. And now, we got a biopic (Bohemian Rhapsody).

So far, the only type of genre that has no $600M-700M+ WW-grossers yet...are straight comedies (with little to no CGI-use). And the highest grossing full-on comedy is Hangover 2 with $586M WW (which is really close). Wonder when will we ever get a $600-700M+ grossing comedy?

It's hard not to call the Deadpool films straight comedies. Sure, they're superhero movies, but they're still clearly designed to be raunchy R-rated comedies core and center, with the superhero formula around them to give them identity.

Isn't he facing financial problems? I don't think he's in the position to refuse jobs.

Still as much action as comedy though.  Action is far more universal than comedy which is why there is the rare global comedy breakout.

Humour doesn't translate that well from country to country. Individually, comedies can  do extremely well like Bridget Jones in the UK or Intouchable in France and Germany but getting a comedy that has that sort of global appeal is difficult.

Add to that that comedic taste is very different depending on the culture of a country or region. The Lego movies are a good example for that, beeing quite succesfull in english-speaking countrys and not playing a big role in the rest of the world.

The reverse is true for comedies that have little US appeal like Bridget Jones or Johnny English.
