It depends, if the adaptation of comic book character is unknown like say Big Hero 6, or original superheroes like The Incredibles and is animated it can translate well overseas.

Yep, if it's unknown or original it could do big numbers but outside of that big numbers will be tough to come by. And then there is Lord and Miller directed and produced films issues. They almost never end up translating to big numbers overseas.

BOM using TRON Legacy as a comp... yikes that was considered frontloaded and a disappointment 8 years ago. (3.6/44OW)

Very pleased - after the slower than normal pick up to sales this week, I was concerned it wasn't gonna top 3m. Should get close / over 40m this weekend.

I’ll never understand how Tron Legacy was considered anything other than a success.

It was based on a movie that had a mediocre reputation and was considered to be at least a decade too late, yet it was the biggest hit of the Christmas period.

that's why low budget protects Spiderverse and assures sequels and spin-offs assuming they keep it low too (doubtful Spider-Women will do better OS).

Spider-Verse isn't exactly low budget, $90m is the most expensive SPA film in a while.

I really liked the film but I can see how the animation could be a turn off for those used to the more traditional CGI.

So, Deadline is predicting a true Friday of

ITSV: $8.5M ($3.5M preview gets it to $12M Fri)

The Mule: $6M

ME: $2.325M ($675K preview gets it to $3M Fri)

That would mean that ITSV had a higher! Preview share than f*cking Incredibles 2.

26 for I2 and 28% for ITSV.

Let’s hope that Apple buys Sony so that the Spider-Man rights go back to Disney. We don’t want the brand to be to diluted with crappy movies like venom and low budget non-events like spider verse :stirthepot:

Why would Apple would be more likely to sell the Spider Man rights back to disney more than Sony ?

Given this ME performance, I'm guessing Fox is happy they moved Alita to February

It seems pretty certain the main reason Alita was moved was because Dark Phoenix is a mess and Fox wanted to keep that Valentines Day slot.

They killed two birds with one stone.
