Yeah, I was gonna say does he not know that it was Victoria Day in Canada.

That being said, I'm actually surprised VD had that much of an effect. A Monday holiday in the US I can see having a significant effect because the population difference is astronomical.

Endgame is obviously holding lot better in Canada than USA. It could be also due to the fact that Endgame release was so saturated in US and multiplex penetration is also lot better, US is running out of audience faster than Canada.

I looked at Endgame showtimes for friday. its still playing in 2-3 screens in big plexes. I wonder how things would be post 6 week contract for Endgame. So I see big theater drop happening week after next. It may end up below Top 5 by that weekend. I have a feeling Pikachu will overtake Endgame either this weekend or next.

Yeah that's a good point. Big blockbusters in general hold a lot better in Canada. US audiences move on faster, likely due to the reasons you mentioned. Demand is burnt off faster in the USA.

What has happened to the daily threads? The last 2 weeks have been horrible from an old guys perspective and it feels like the mods have just given up keeping everyone on track.

On topic, it appears the films have done what they should have given the Monday holiday. Always makes this time of May interesting to track.

Nice drops all around today though for sure.

This forum always had more noise as there are tons of posters and almost every BO thread goes sideways to some other discussion. One way is to ignore those. But I agree with you that mods would handle those discussions more firmly.

You should have been at BOM forums back in the day and anyone called Loonie there never took it as batshit crazy and was seen as a positive, which it is still.

I was around during those BOM forum days and I viewed "Loonie" as a derogatory term.  The summer of 2002 featured the epic battle between Spider-Man fans vs. Star Wars "Loonies." :)  I remember BoMoJohn (or something like that) kept insisting Attack of the Clones would eventually win that B.O. battle ("it'll make $100 mil in IMAX theaters alone!"), and he took its defeat at the hands of Sam Raimi and friends pretty hard! I think Baumer was around for that...?

I took "loonie" to mean someone who unreasonably defended their favorite film/franchise from any/all criticism. Theirs is the best; all others are inferior! Loonie is short for "lunatic," after all. (Yes, I know fan is short for fanatic, but "fan" has been around as a more casual term for a long time, unlike "loonie," which in most circles is derogatory - "send ya to the Looney Bin," etc.)

Avengers: Endgame earned another $2.878 million on Tuesday, actually dropping 9% from Monday’s $3.16 million gross. To be fair, yesterday was weird in term of day-to-day holds, as John Wick: Chapter 3 only jumped 14% from Monday ($6.5 million for a $69 million five-day cume) and Pikachu jumped only 10% for a $99.5 million 16-day total. Only A Dog’s Journey got the conventional Tuesday bump (many theater chains offer discount tickets on Tuesday), rising 44% on Tuesday for a $1 million gross and a still-underwhelming $9.731 million five-day cume.

He is a box office expert, and doesn't know why monday was unusual. And it's damn closing to IW's 2.859m

my thoughts exactly. I cannot believe he actually tweeted that out without understanding why. I mean he knows the box office is both Canada and the United States and yet you didn't know Monday was a holiday in Canada? Weird.

Same weekly drops from the post VD Tues as:

CW 777.4+40.2*1.18=825M

IM3 777.4+40.2*1.34=831M

AoU 777.4+40.2*1.50=838M

IW 777.4+40.2*1.815=850M

Not sure if VD is the week before Memorial Day every year, but it was for those 4.

~840 I’d guess. Would be 1470 DOM+China, need 1320 OS-C. Dicey.

Maybe 850 with a Labor Day push (none of the above 4 got one, but Endgame seems well positioned).
