I’m not sure how to view Blinded by the Light’s number, I never expect it to do huge business but WB didn’t promote it in the US nor spend much on it so maybe they see it more as a title for HBO Max.

Good Boys is a good film although I do worry about Jacob Tremblay as he’s made a name for himself but Hollywood is never kind to child actor once they hit puberty

WB also just picked up a Springsteen documentary so they're probably just happy to be in business with The Boss.

As for Tremblay, I wouldn't worry. Hollywood Reporter just released a thing covering 30 actors under 18 currently making names for themselves in the industry ( https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/lists/young-hollywood-2019-top-30-stars-under-age-18-1231169 ) and he sounds like he's interested in sticking around and eventually branching out into other areas (writing, directing, etc.) when he gets older.

I mean, it's sucky...but totally expected...every movie is single or shared screened at 14s and below...so we have the situation where we manage to finally have more than 10 movies over $1M again (and it's gonna 14), but nothing does well...and nothing broke out so big that showings and screens got stolen and thrown at them (okay Good Boys did a little, but not a lot)...everything is just kinda there or worse...

And just wait til next weekend...c'mon Labor Day pay-what-you-want deal (forget $5...just let folks pay anything or have them buy popcorn and give a free seat:)...

Can definitely tell we are moving into school year with those Friday increases. And as I noted last weekend, the good holds that some films had all summer was definitely related to the lack of releases. The 10 new films over 2 weeks have decimated late legs for TS4 and Spidey forsure and definitely have not been kind to Lion Kings show times. The fact it wont even be over 500m after this weekend is crazy based on its opening.

Also, as for lack of discussion, this particular sub area of the board has been slow overall the entire summer. When there are significant numbers of threads on page 1 showing last post at 12+ hours, the traffic is just not what it used to be. And that carries over to the weekend discussions.

The 10 wide releases these 2 weekends really squeezed the older holdovers like Aladdin, TS4, FFH, and Yesterday.

Even with the upcoming Labor Day expansion TS4 will go for 435-440ish and miss Shrek 2.

No clue how much of a bounce FFH will get from the Director’s Cut, but without that it would be heading to just 390.

TDKR adjusted vs TLK 1st-5th weekends

188.4 - 191.8

72.7 - 76.6

41.8 - 38.5

22.2 - 20.2

12.9 - ~11.6

Headed to 530s or maybe 540s with good legs.

Every AMC theater I have been to for several months has shown the trailer in front of every damn movie. I can't even stand it anymore. So unless they're just weird anomalies, it has most definitely been promoted theatrically.

What's the board's consensus on OUATIH's final DOM? My crummy napkin math says high 130s. I would love it to beat Inglorious Basterd's adjusted (145M) but that seems a bridge too far?

Probably around 135M. It'll benefit from two dead weekends, but It 2 will put a big dent into its run.

Good Boys will be top spot for three weeks. Angel Is Fallen will be another Expendables 3., Lionsgate is saving their $$$ with Scary Stories. For late summer it’s sad to say these underperformers feel like they should’ve been made for cable or streaming purposes not for theaters

I feel like most of the non-tentpoles this summer are the kind of stuff we’re going to see go direct-to-streaming in the future. I caught Blinded by the Light today, and with just a handful of viewers in attendance, I figured it’s the kind of movie I’ll just watch on my couch in a few years. And that’s a shame with that particular one because it would be a fun movie to watch with a big audience (especially if they’re into Springsteen), but that seems to be the direction we’re headed.

I'll keep beating this drum - TIERED Pricing.  If these smaller scope/budgeted films were priced anywhere from 50-65% of a currently priced ticket then more people would see them in the theater instead of waiting to see it at home.

I saw Good Boys today in a theater that was actually mostly full and the audience was completely into it (lots of laughter during the funniest bits, etc.). I can see it holding onto the #1 spot until IT Chapter Two opens.
