For what it's worth, comparison between last weekend and this one so far here in Italy for Joker

Oct. 04-05: 1.2M + 2.2M (+1.9M on sunday Oct. 06)
Oct. 11-12: 1.1M + 2M (-9%)

Its total gross now stands at 13.5M (it was at 6.2M last sunday), it's going to pass Aladdin today or tomorrow, ending as the #3 movie of the year, only behind Endgame and The Lion King and passing 20M at the end of its run.

Just sitting here wondering why are we debating a 57M 2nd weekend of an R Rated drama/thriller.Hell even the early predictions that callled for a high 40s weekend seemed great to me.

Because it's a box office discussion forum. They're great numbers, but we still like to talk about how it got there.

UK may see a second weekend of 10+M according to Rth.WTF this movie’s run is...well...crazy.It breaks all kinds of records across Europe and the numbers from Asia are great across the board.Australia saw a drop of only 25%.Fuck imagine he if it had a China release...

I don’t think it would make the same numbers there because of the nature of the movie as a character study but we would be talking about the film potentially grossing 1B.Maybe it’s still a possibility without China?

Overall, according to Rth OS weekend will be 115M (-24%)...fucking crazy...

If China released it, it would be a 40 minute short film, due to censorship. Everything to do with protests would be cut out. It would make for an interesting experiment, at least, to see the final result of the editing.

If only they release full movie, I mean by 9.2 rating in Douban. Clearly they like it .

Yeah maybe small sample size, just 35k rating.

Jurassic Park didn't hit a billion in original release or even immediate expansion (a la TDK)

thanks, didn't know ~ that was a legendary run back then though~

*so boxoffice mojo counts 2013 JP 3D as part of Domestic total...and it did get a China release, not clear whether the 3D OS gross also counted as part of the original release~

The original The Lion King (1994) got pretty close too. Just needs another re-release.

Total Lifetime Grosses
Domestic:  $422,783,777    43.7%
Foreign:  $545,700,000    56.3%

Worldwide:  $968,483,777

Nah, wasnt close in 1994-95 that total includes the 2002 and the huge 2011 rerelease which earned 95m just in the US.

Huge for the 1990s yes, but nowhere close to a billion.

And by that I of course mean its original. Its definitely close now, but wouldnt be the same.
