Always present day, unless the tracker makes a statement about it being for a past day. Disney is known for underestimating their sundays more frequently so its not a big surprise.

Criticism can help push some people over the fence (to see or skip) but it by far holds the most weight at the B.O. for smaller budgeted Indie films that don't have money for the marketing push or the usual genre hooks or established IP. 

 

But Gemini Man is not that kind of film.   It a sci-fi action film starring  Will Smith.  It's not as if he had a bunch of critically acclaimed films when he was the top B.O. superstar.

The marketing/concept etc just didn't hook the audience enough to show up the first w/e en mass and WOM from those that saw it didn't give it legs after.

 

WOM was strong in my household, daughter saw it last week and rated it higher than Joker.

 

BTW, did anyone see it in 2D?

 

We didn't get the choice in any of the showings, they were all 3D.

 

Also, the only real criticism I had was that the Cinematography was kinda weird, like it was too clean and well defined. We saw it in Xplus/Atmos.

Comedy sequels have a mixed track record and untimely sequels are no less dodgy (Todd Phillips would clearly be the first person to tell you comedy tastes change with time). I think the fact it managed to out-open the original's $24M opening gross a decade ago shows it likely would made $100M+ easily had it arrived in October 2011 (when Eisenberg was coming off of The Social Network and Stone was on her great Easy A/Crazy Stupid Love/The Help run).

Yesterday I talked about how Police officers are raiding the cinemas and escort the underage out of the Joker screenings.Today there is word that it’s a rival studio that  is sending the police to the screenings.The whole thing is fucking hilarious.Might just watch Joker a 4th time just to witness these glorious raids.
