Not a January release. Movies have done 300M in the month of January but none of them with a Jan release date, which is why BOM counting Sniper as the Jan OW record is still wrong. Its not though, I edited my original to make sure you understood I know why it doesnt count. 

 

As for the opening weekend that is how limited releases have always been counted. No different if Frozen had opened in the December 1 spot instead of post Thanksgiving, its 90m weekend would have been considered Decembers record (at the time).  From the industry standard AS rightfully claims the record, cant be helped.

It didn’t exactly bomb. People just had better expectations for it. It’s going to hit the low end of its tracking which is still fine given its $30M production budget. Depending on the OS numbers, it should still be profitable as a result. But a lot of folks on here (and else where) thought that maybe Last Christmas would be a bigger hit considering who was involved in the project. 
 

In regards to Clarke, Me Before You, was a box office smash. I think with the correct material she could do very well but I don’t see her being the type of star where people go see a movie just because she’s in it. But I feel that way about 99.9% of actors/actresses as the movie star era is dead.

Between 4 new wide openers and the expansion of a couple films, the loss if showtimes and screen counts is very very very evident. 

So many new releases the last 2 weekends and September and October were empty, relatively speaking.... sigh

WB's marketing department got a reputation from the Zack Snyder era DC films (Man Of Steel, Batman v Superman, Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman) getting huge buzz and opening weekends, once he was gone it all came tumbling down, what a coincidence.

Crazy Rich Asians, The Meg, Aquaman, Rampage, A Star Is Born, IT and many other films that have nothing to do with Snyder would like to have a word.

 So this is all Rebecca Ferguson's fault?  What about Ewan McGregor the actual star of the movie?  I wouldn't pay to see it because of him.  He drove me crazy watching the Fargo series with his abysmal American accent - I thought he was the weakest link in that show plus he doesn't have the greatest box office when he is the lead actor.
