Weekend Thread: Estimates - Midway 17.5, Sleep 14.1, Fire 12.8, Xmas 11.6, Terminatah 10.8, Jokah 9.2, Mal2 8

Recommended Posts

Well November 2019 is horrible. I have a feeling Frozen 2 will probably be mega mega big now with every single film this month bombing.

Midway will probably play better than I thought, congratulations it’s still a flop but not a mega flop like what I thought.

Doctor Sleep, what the hell? I thought it would do profitable but I’ve always remembered Stephen King’s properties were always hit or miss at the box office. So it’s not a surprise but sad considering it looked good.

Last Christmas will benefit with legs, opening weekend isn’t really a clear benefactor keep in mind guys. Love Actually didn’t have a massive weekend but it almost did $60 million 16 years ago for example.

Playing With Fire, probably what Paramount will be doing now since Terminator and Gemini Man are their big misfires. This one will probably do so-so.

For the rest of this year, I feel like we’re in 2011 all over again. Do I think streaming is an issue? Yes and no, yes because Netflix has appealing films that people are digging( Dolemite Is My Name for example) and some others. No because studios haven’t pulled anything major this year, so it’s the studios fault.

Disney has been king this year, and no other studios have been able to top them this year. WB has been the closest to them this year. STX is a surprise studio this year, and Universal pulling out successes with their mid-range fare and two big blockbusters. How To Train Your Dragon 3 and Glass even did well for them.

But should Secret Life Of Pets 2 be considered a flop? Eh I don’t know.

Anyway I’m taking a break from this forum. I”ll be on here every once and a while to shoot some shit. So y”all take care!

Sincerely,

Max Moser

Is it jingoistic as hell like it seems from the trailers?

Quotes from the movie

”Let me make you a sandwich honey”

”This is for Pearl!” (As Pilot Dick Best nails a bomb on a Japanese carrier and narrowly escapes the flames)

”Let’s go kill some Japs!”

All the Americans are portrayed as forcibly cool scrappy underdogs, who needlessly shorten any word or phrase they say in an attempt to portray how cool they are.

Last Christmas opened a month too early. December 6th weekend is dead space. Could’ve fit nicely there.

Universal probably didn't want both of their Christmas movies (the other being the horror/thriller Black Christmas which is using the Friday the 13th release date gimmick) in the same month and its legs would've been cut short both by Christmas passing and the glut of releases between December 13 and Christmas Day.

Nope..... this conversation keeps happening but the data is always ignored. First weekend of december is statistically bad because weekends 2 and 3 as well as Christmas Day proper eat all the screens up. 2 week contracts really suck at Christmas. Rarely will you find a film opening the weekend after Thanksgiving with any type of legs because surgery happens way too fast to take advantage of the holiday period between 12.25 and 1.2

I'm seeing a lot of "most profitable" ever tweets about Joker.  Is this really the most profitable CBM?  What were the costs on Endgame?

It depends on the definition. Forbes and other trades are using the Return On Investment metric of profitability. It is the most profitable in terms of revenue/cost, and it probably is the most profitable in terms of profit/cost.

In terms of pure profit, if Deadline is more or less correct it will probably pass Infinity War's 500 million. Endgame's profit has been rumored to be around 700 million. So Joker will probably become the 2nd most profitable comic book movie.

Last Christmas was going to do what it did this weekend regardless of when it was released. It’s not like the reason why it didn’t do well was because of competition or anything. If it didn’t survive against the films that it opened up against this weekend why would it survive against the power houses being released in December? In fact, I’d argue that it would have done even worse had it been release then because of screen space and theater counts.

The poor souls who fought at Midway suffer  through hell so we can have

a generation of ungrateful, entitled, moralizing, energy & ressources gobblers

whiners who act as victims at every opportunity they can get and think they know how hard life is.

They wouldn't survive 2 minutes in 1942.

45 seconds tops.

They would turn into the foetal position in a catatonic state.

They adore The Joker.

Of course  it is their hero.

Their commander in chief victim.

"Earn this"

was the last sentence of Saving Private Ryan.

Still waiting ...

another flop for will smith, next is bad boy.....he need to beg a mercy for that suicide squad role....lol

Will Smith only cares about money and not about quality or working with renowned directors. If they offered him a higher paycheck to Star in a Uwe Boll Movie over A Nolan movie he would pick the former

What a weekend lmao.

Dead weekend and yet we are gonna reach 20 pages before Sunday. More pages than what the number one film did this weekend. A rarity on BOT these days.
