This is unprecedented, even for megaflops like this. Good for my club though, even if I declared it victorious already. The amount of careers this movie will kill in the end will no doubt go down in history.

Yeah the entire domestic total will finish roughly 15% of the original movie adjusted. The entire total will <10% higher than original's opening day adjusted.

What Disney is saying is they will stop weekly updates. It does mean box office for the movie will stop. We have seen overseas grosses for movies updated as late more than an year from the release. There are also markets which only provide reports at end of the run(these are smaller markets). So we will see OS gross definitely increase from where it is now.

Damn, you mean months upon months of people waiting to dogpile might have hurt box office, who would have guessed

It became a John Carter-level bomb because it had horrendous WOM and very few people were interested in it in the first place. Barely beat Blue Beetle domestically despite being the sequel to a $430m DOM grossing movie. Total and unanimous rejection by audiences.

I mean, it was fans of Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel who said the haters were just a vocal minority and they wouldn't affect the box office.

However, the biggest issue for the movie was the lack of interest, which was noticeable since the beginning. That's the reason why the movie has a pretty poor OW.

The online Yellow flash whatever chuds, yes, they're a small group. But when the only coverage for months is all of Variety type stuff because of the strikes, yes, the negative stuff is much louder.

Funny how nobody says this about similar movies that have also cost 200 plus and made far less...

It's called expectations and context. When a streaming prestige play makes similar numbers (an overperformance from most expectations tbf) it's seen as a secondary revenue stream anyway. It's a loss leader for Apple to build prestige for their film studio.

When the most successful franchise in history has one of the largest flops in history...and is a sequel to a film that made over a billion, that's far more alarming to be making those numbers and creates a different narrative surrounding it.

Variety stuff only happened, because they also noticed The Marvels didn't have interest from the audience. They wouldn't make that if they didn't notice the lower state of the MCU brand.

I've understand MCU fans want to blame the negativity around The Marvels for the reception. However, the lack of interest on The Marvels existed from the beginning.
