Don't know how bad the timeframe is, but I think Labor Day could work if push comes to shove, since there's nothing else IMAX can play until the Avatar re-release (although maybe The Woman King could get that treatment)

I'd say go for end of August if it's not able to make it to July 22 (we'll see) due to running behind schedule and needing more time. Month is pretty barren after Bullet Train that first weekend.

 

Although July 22 would have nothing on it if that happens. More breathing room for Thor, Minions, Crawdads, etc.

Honestly if this ends up delayed Universal should move The Black Phone to that spot. The competition wouldn't be nearly as fierce as what it's currently facing (Elvis that same weekend, holdovers Lightyear and Jurassic World will still be making a lot of money).

It just shifted to August 12th here in Turkey as well. My guess is that they want to give more international breathing room to Jurassic World and Minions.

 

Or it could just be that there is partial truth to the VFX crunch rumours. There is some, but not a whole lot hence the small delay.

No spoiler, but the overall feeling of how test screening went this week. 

 

Basically very unfinished VFX, story and pacing problems, doesn't seem like things that couldn't be fixed until release.

Shifting to August 12 wouldn't be the worst thing that could happen since that month is still very barren even after Bullet Train moved to the first weekend of it (and studios are perhaps starting to realize that).
