Dragon ball could be the 2nd highest grossing august release, right? I mean it’s no demon slayer but being flat from Broly admits could be good enough.

That is assuming it's actually flat from Broly though, not too sure that'll be the case.

If Super-Pets ends up underperforming that might give Disney a glimmer of hope for Strange World enjoying a breakout since it'll be the first animated movie in nearly four months by the time it comes out (Lyle, Lyle, Crocodile is the only other movie coming out between now and then mostly targeting families). Unless it ends up being Puss in Boots around Christmas that reaps the benefits lol.

Why is Super-Pets dying?

Honestly, the previews aren't very funny and it just reeks of a transparent Secret Life of Pets wannabe (complete with Kevin Hart too!) with DC characters included in hopes of giving it a box office boost. Movies that mostly seem to exist just to cash in on the success of others (not just the Illumination hit, which spawned an underperforming sequel, but also the Johnson/Hart Jumanji movies + Central Intelligence) rarely end up succeeding.

Superhero will end up doing about 37% less than Broly in Japan in local currency, i can't imagine that trend will reverse overseas

Seems like Crunchyroll are pushing Sub over Dub for this as well, not a smart move for Dragon Ball

It definitely will. Superhero will gross less overall everywhere.

Celebritiy salaries

Steve Carell was paid $12.5m for Minions 2. That movie's profits will justify the cost though.

Pay will include being in the movie, and all the marketing/interviews that Carell has being doing for them.

I think Puss in Boots will be the breakout family movie. Strange World seems like it’d get the short end of the marketing stick with Wakanda, Avatar and the Disney+ holiday load.
