I think the obvious choice is to do a Founders era prequel. It's still got familiar names and Hogwarts obviously, but without the attachment to the HP era characters. Slytherine himself is interesting enough to be a great antagonist without it being a retread of Grindelwald or Voldemort. Plus there's a lot more freedom since so little detail is actually known beyond the broadest strokes.

That’s a good idea too but I think a Marauders story would immediately draw more interest because of their direct relationship to the HP characters

I'm curious, what did your family collectively think of the first 2 movies? Do they just hate fb2? Rowling shenanigans?

they haven't been paying that much attention to the rowling stuff tbh. they liked the first one but hated/were confused by the second one and just haven't expressed any interest this time around.

i think rowling has not done the franchise any favors, but i'm skeptical a lot of general audiences who are older/ aren't terminally online will know much about all of it. IMO much of the blame for fb3's likely poor performance has to come down to fb2 being such a god-awful movie, one of the worst major blockbusters in recent memory.

where is the special edition Blu ray of this? Come on Shout Factory/Arrow/Kino Lorber

Disney has the domestic rights. Not sure about OS.

FWIW last year, a fan site (yes this movie has a fan site) restored and put out online the movie’s (longer) workprint version.

The Wizarding World franchise is easily fixable, you can get away with ending Fantastic Beasts and just starting afresh with another aspect of the world. At this point, kicking Rowling upstairs and getting a new director would be a start.

DC is fine, The Batman has been successful and honestly between the two franchises, DC is in better shape.

What WB need to do is market DC more into Asia. It seems like they've given up on that region.

Where are we pulling these 17% inflation in ticket prices from? NATO hasn't published average ticket prices since 2020, not sure why we are pulling 17% numbers from thin air.

AMC's quarterly investment reports. AMC is the barometer for the domestic market at large. The Q4 2021 average ticket price (latest available quarter) was $11.50 while Q3 2017 (when Homecoming was released) came in at $9.80 and that's how we get 17%.

Jacob Kowalski is by far the best thing about the movies and they’re giving him a wand in this one which seems like hardcore pandering at this point.

but good for Jacob tho.

He should have been the focus of Fantastic Beasts instead of Redmayne mugging and colorful weirdoing across the screen.

Sonic's popularity is mainly nostalgic, Mario is ever present and waaaaay bigger.

It isn't just nostalgia at all. A large portion of Sonic's fanbase some people ignore (but is a MAJOR factor) is the mobile fanbase. Tens of millions of people playing Sonic games on mobile for free. Mario doesn't have many mobile offerings, and the ones that it does have aren't as big as some of the Sonic mobile games. Sonic Dash, for example, was downloaded half a billion times. Think about how massive that is.

Sonic Dash Hits 500 million downloads

Mario has him beat when it comes to console-based video games, but in terms of pervasiveness and reach, free mobile apps will do a lot for you. Kids might not be playing Sonic at home on a console, but they sure as hell are seeing him in the app store.

Sonic 2’s OW go up with actuals tomorrow?

Likely. 34% Sunday drop seems severe. But it's hard to find good comparables for well received non animated family friendly flicks for non holiday weekends.

2016 Jungle Book dropped around 25%. If Sonic got that drop, it could rise another $2M, but, I think that would be the high end.

So wouldn't that be 17% from when Homecoming came out and not from 2019 like people are randomly extrapolating.

And even there, the average ticket prices in 2021 are skewed higher due to lower number of releases and people preferring PLFs compared to a stable market in 2017 with all budget ranges of releases.

Feels like taking random samples by everyone to make a case for their favorite movies.

Demos were 61% guys, 39% women with 32% under 17, and 46% between 18-34 years old. Diversity demos showed a strong turnout among Latino and Hispanic audiences of 38%, Caucasian at 29%, 20% Black and 13% Asian/other. Sonic was great everywhere, but showed power on the coasts and in the South. PLFs by Saturday AM drove 22% of ticket sales. EntTelligence showed also this AM, 2.1M moviegoers watched the sequel. On Friday, approximately 31% of the audience came before 5PM, 46% came during the 5PM to 8PM dayparts, and 23% of patrons showed up after 8PM.  By comparison, Encanto had over 83% of their audience see the film before 8PM on opening day. Average ticket price for Sonic 2 was $11.95.

Not sure I like these demographics for Sonic 2 as it seems less children than anticipated.

All these adult men choosing to watch Sonic instead of Ambulance. Masculinity is dead.

I took my little cousin to see it lol. As well as planning on seeing Ambulance sometime this week with friends.

Also one had Idris Elba, the other didn’t.

No it has evolved. Video game and anime characters are the new role models now. And dinosaurs as well of course.
