Strange won’t even get to $16M for the 3-day from that, -59% from last Sat - got shot down by TG2

Going to be barely over the $370 mark I said previously it needed by Memorial Day in order to top $400M, should wind up right on that cut line

And probably close enough that Disney will make sure it happens, one way or another

At least Lightyear and Thor 4 will help boost. Still 59% down from last Saturday is still catastrophic for better lack of word.

Feige/Marvel potentially lost 100+ million dollars bc they let Raimi make Evil Dead 4. What a strange decision by marvel.

Misleading marketing campaign +++ crap wom doomed them. Whatever good will the MCU had from NWH is gone.

Still think they should’ve left things at Endgame. MCU is definitely starting to lose some luster. DS-2 should’ve easily been a 400 mil grosser.

You can say this if Thor and BP2 underperform but until then its way premature

I was already factoring that in. Both Civil War and Infinity War only clawed out ~$31M after Memorial Day, with the respective assists from the other Disney summer openings, and Strange has been generally weaker in holding

Left things at Endgame?

They would be leaving billions at the table.

Top Gun: Maverick is great; yeah. Nice to see a blockbuster that unabashedly makes you leave the theater feeling fantastic about everything.

Also watched Chip 'n Dale today. definitely made the right decision to put that on streaming

It is fucking ridiculous. The episodes are endless. By the 60 minutes mark in the first episode literally nothing plot wise had happened yet.

Damn you weren't kidding, plot didn't start until the last 5 minutes of Episode 1.

Top ten grossing films of 1986. I think Crocodile Dundee was actually the big surprise of the year

1 Top Gun Paramount $176,781,728
2 Crocodile Dundee $174,803,506
3 Platoon Orion $138,530,565
4 The Karate Kid Part II Columbia $115,103,979
5 Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home Paramount $109,713,132
6 Back to School Orion $91,258,000
7 Aliens Fox $86,160,248
8 The Golden Child Paramount $79,817,937
9 Ruthless People Disney $71,624,879
10 Ferris Bueller's Day Off Paramount $70,136,169

Transformers really the worst thing to happen to Paramount. Their overreliance on it literally pulled the rug under their feet once it began to crumble.

One Disney movie and four Paramount movies in the top ten. How times have changed.

Ruthless People needs a Bluray release.

Meanwhile even all those years ago Sony/Columbia would put in a massive teenage boi centric IP in the Top 5 and call it a day. :spidey:

where the hell do people get time to watch all these shows. It seems people are able to keep up with every major show that is out. Do people just spend all their free time binging shows?

Unexpected lower Saturday bump than batman despite being a less fan-driven IP and A+ cinemascore. Guess that Saturday bump was partly muted by Sunday being a second Saturday.

Referring 2018 and 2019 memorial weekend Sunday, most movies single digit or even increase on Sunday. However, the holiday bump post-pandemic has been meh.

Episode 1 does take it a little too slow but the rest(on ep 5) are fine and don't personally mind bse its the best stranger things has been in years and the scope is quite bigger which can be it's detriment at points in the season.

Jumping in to share that Saturday jumps for Memorial Day weekend openers are always muted. Quiet Place 2 jumped 4% from true Friday. Solo jumped 15%. Top Gun's is looking closer to the higher end of recent comps (Aladdin, which did +20-25%). And I imagine the Memorial Day monday itself is going to be a very impressive hold...
