Crazy (once again) for Top Gun but the story of this predictably slow weekend otherwise has to be Mack & Rita getting a D+ CinemaScore grade (especially considering how few people actually bothered to check it out). What was the last comedy to grade that poorly? Holmes & Watson is the only one that comes to mind.

I had to laugh.

Quote

And the glacial drip, drip, drip of ticket sales is only going to worsen as the box office heads for a near desolate stretch with hardly any new offerings from major studios on the horizon. While movie theater owners brace for the downtrend, they are bowing at the altar of Harry Styles in hopes the pop heartthrob will inspire audiences to return to theaters in droves for director Olivia Wilde’s mind-bender “Don’t Worry Darling,” which doesn’t open until Sept. 23. Until then, exhibitors will have to make do with smaller thrillers and dramas like Idris Elba’s “Beast,” which is coming on Aug. 19; “Three Thousand Years of Longing,” a fantasy romance with Tilda Swinton and Elba (again) on Aug. 26; and the Viola Davis-led historical epic “The Woman King” on Sept. 16.

Elvis can get to 150M, Superpets looks like a 90M or so finish with a chance to get to 100M since there's nothing new for kids out for a long time.

Nope looks like a 120-125M wrap. Bullet Train in the 90M range, Thor O/U 340M, Minions around 365M.

The box office right now is just seeing all these movies play out to their predictable ending grosses and waiting out the lean next couple of months. The release schedule is a wasteland.

I doubt many of these movies will actually hit their -25% projected Sunday, so expecting most numbers to come in even lower by finals

Elvis run has been so darn impressive. A

4.52 multiplier right now. Crawdads has been doing very well too. Also R rated movies look like they are slowly coming back. I want to know how Nope's international openings compare to US and Get Out in like for like markets but I don't feel like looking up that info right now.

I suspect there is at least one high-flying movie that will have no problems landing with less than 25% drop on Sunday.
