With the 2 movies doing so well and the fact that there seems to be a shortage of screens I think both movies should have really good legs. I know there’s a lot of double features but there are likely a lot of people who want to see both that are just going to pick 1 and go see the other some other weekend. Should bode well for both.

I am disappointed with Gitesh. he has been in BO business for 3 decades(I loved his articles from 96). Him saying B+O will combine to 180-200m this weekend is a disappointing take. He should have known based on how many sellouts seen yesterday and being in this business he should know about presales for rest of the weekend and could have extrapolated lot better 🙂

I expected that BARBIE number which is amazing, but that OPPENHEIMER number surprised me in a great way. An 80M weekend is a possibility and that's crazy for a movie like it.

I think this week basically show that, the golden age of superhero movies are gone. You have to be that great like GOTG3 and ATSV, in order to perform like pre-pandemic average superhero film.

True. That actually made $586M WW (including the $254M DOM), but having just looked further in the “highest grossing comedy films list”, Hangover 2 is just highest grossing pure comedy film worldwide…made in the US.

Surprisingly…the highest grossing pure live action comedy film in general worldwide…(counting foreign movies) is the more lighthearted Chinese film “Hi, Mom” which made $850M+ WW and came out two years ago. Anyone ever seen that film?

They did not even perform prepandemic for how overly hyped those movies were. Pre pandemic hyped comic book movies made a billion. Guardians should have been a billion, not less than Vol. 2

Huh? Guardians 3 was not hyped enough for a billion. I was surprised that it wasn't on par with Guardians 2 but the numbers were hardly disappointing, regardless.

Barbie is absolutely nuts. I believe both the OW multy as well as overall mutly will be great for it. I could see a Wonder Woman scenario repeating itself for WB.

$150M for Barbie and $75M for Oppenheimer are now the floor for both IMO. Barbie should have an IM higher than GOTG3, and a 7x IM for a three-hour adult biopic should be a cakewalk.

 

This super blockbuster weekend is going to be number porn. First the reviews and now the box office. I’m hoping for a $300M weekend total. $314M weekend total for #2 all-time would be one for the ages.

As great as the DOM numbers are, the LATAM numbers are absolutely unbelievable. The film is challenging or straight up beating endgame in many of these markets, just unreal!
