Got a text eariler.   I like the title because it's an important quote in both films.   I understand the date change.  Will plate is still pretty full and after "Suicide Squad" success his plate is going to be more full.   This is probably the end of the franchise thus the title change.   I'm been following this sequel for over a decade of development hell.  I think they finally stick with that date with MLK Weekend.  Yes Januray is the Dead Zone but "American Sniper" and "Ride Along" proved you can have breakout success in that month.   Very happy and nothing against Joe but I wish Bay would finish the trilogy.  Obviously this is going to be the last one guys.   The title basically says this is our last ride.

Bad Boys - 90's

Bad Boys II - 00's

Bad Boys For Life - 10's

Martin and Will at the end of 2015, Black don't crack baby, looking good guys.  Can't Wait for the Bad Boys to get back in action

Well it was obvious they weren't going to make the June date

Not only were they not going to make it (Even if they started production next month there's no way the movie would be ready by then)   but they were going head to head with "Wonder Woman" and might split the "Action" Audience.   Again I think Summer is the best spot for a Will Smith Action Tentpole but as I said, "Ride Along" and "American Sniper" proved MLK Weekend can be beast with the right films.   I think "Blade Runner 2" is tentively scheduled that weekend, they should definitely move.   You have two of the biggest Black Stars in the last 20 years finish off a well loved fan driven action comedy franchise.   Will also got his mojo back after "Suicide Squad" record breaking success.   My only beef is Michael Bay isn't back.   The push back also should give him time to finish "Transformers V" and do this but I guess he will just stay on as Executive Producer.    The title is also play off a famous Puff Daddy/P-Diddy song "Bad Boys For Life".   Puffy also produced the mutiplatinum success "Bad Boys II" Soundtrack and he also had artist featured on the first "Bad Boys" Soundtrack:

I think this is a brilliant move.  You can pencil it in for a 60 million opening.  As long as the trailers are good that is.  And if the film has any of the feel of the original, this will have terrific legs.  Hoping for 60/155

That's a nice starting prediction Baumer but with a Holiday Weekend it could get higher than that.  But I'm also kind of guarded because January historically just doesn't deliever most of the time.  Let's look at MLK Weekend Top 10 in Box Office History:

Rank Title (click to view) Studio Opening Gross* % of total Theaters / Avg. Total Gross** Date^
1 American Sniper WB $107,211,457 30.6% 3,555 $30,158 $350,126,372 1/16/15
2 Ride Along Uni. $48,626,380 36.0% 2,663 $18,260 $134,938,200 1/17/14
3 Cloverfield Par. $46,146,546 57.6% 3,411 $13,529 $80,048,433 1/18/08
4 Ride Along 2 Uni. $41,006,705 45.1% 3,175 $12,915 $90,862,685 1/15/16
5 The Green Hornet Sony $40,012,543 40.5% 3,584 $11,164 $98,780,042 1/14/11
6 Paul Blart: Mall Cop Sony $39,234,238 26.8% 3,144 $12,479 $146,336,178 1/16/09
7 The Book of Eli WB $38,437,553 40.5% 3,111 $12,355 $94,835,059 1/15/10
8 Black Hawk Down SonR $33,628,211 31.0% 3,101 $10,844 $108,638,745 1/18/02
9 Along Came Polly Uni. $32,450,825 36.8% 2,984 $10,874 $88,097,164 1/16/04
10 Mama Uni. $32,147,815 44.9% 2,647 $12,145 $71,628,180 1/18/13

So as you see, not much splashing in the Januray Pool.  But notice the first two on the list, those are recent Januray release.  We've also seen February, March and August re-write the history books.  I think BOM included "AS" limited release sales into that opening weekend but it did 89.   "Bad Boys II" opening weekend (46M) adjust to about 20 million more now at (66 M) so again I think your predict is pretty solid right now Baumer.  What would I like to see?  It take down "AS" OW though that's a tall mountain.

The Two Tom's better watch out, Will is approaching fast in a shorter time on the Big Screen.  "BBFL" looks to add another one for Will.   Lucky for Tom and Tom they got a few hits coming up their sleeves as well.   But they both can cleary see Will Speeding in their rear view mirror:

Most 100 Million Blockbusters in a Lead Staring Role:

#1. Tom Cruise - 18

#2. Tom Hanks - 17

#3. Will Smith - 14*

#4. Harrison Ford - 13

*"Sucide Squad" not only became Will's Biggest weekend ever but also moved him past "Harrison Ford" for #3 all time 100 Million Grosser in a Leading Role.    He is forever amongst the Box Office Gods now.

Good point about Ride Along and American Sniper 'opening' up January a bit. Dark Tower may do the same. Yes, black doesn't crack. :)
