It didn't seem too bad. I don't think the general audience cares that much about the quality of the effects. I mean, they'd turn away if it was made in Microsoft Paint, but I don't think the vfx looks as bad as people are making it out to be.

 

Will it receive an Oscar nomination for vfx, however? No, on the basis that I could very easily name five other 2017 films that look like they have better effects.

I think the vfx look acceptable. They'll be fine as long as they focus on the destruction and don't have to much talking.

Keep in mind we're still three months out from release. It's common for movie trailers to have incomplete/placeholder effects work.

Given how long it's been in production with various reshoots and four release date changes, I can't imagine WB is expecting it to do much business but they're only distributing it so it's no real loss to them if it flops.

Their 2 big October bets are both that way. Alcon produced BR2049 and Skydance produced this movie. WB just distributing both.

Sony co financed it hence they have OS. WB have something existing with Alcon hence DOM
