3D played a factor but it still probably increased around 20% admissions wise from IM2's OW. Pretty impressive.

Perhaps being a better film still matters to people?  I know it's a far second to good marketing, but it's a comforting thought.  :)

I've yet to see the film but I know it won't take much for me to like it more than IM2. That film was just mediocre in every sense of the word and repeat viewings do not help it at all.

According to spizzers calculations it was a 10% increase in attendance.

I'm surprised Tysons made it.  There were like 4 or 5 other theaters that had 20% more shows over the weekend, and its usually the Cinemark in Hanover that makes the lists for the bigger openers.
