miketheavenger
I still can't quite believe the reviews for Pirates 5. I never expected it to be rated fresh, but a score in the 20s seems awfully low. I haven't seen the movie yet, but I can't imagine it being that bad. Sometimes I just don't understand critics. Can't say anything about Baywatch. We’re the Millers went on to make a $6.8M Wednesday before legging out to a $26.4M three-day and $37.9M five-day. Let’s Be Cops earned $5.2M on its first day including previews, and then $17.8M over three and $26.2M over five. It's very DL to miss the most obvious: The Hangover 3, also a Thursday Memorial Day weekend release, made $3.1M from late night previews (I think it was 10PM but I can't find corroborating info) and an $11.8M OD. Baywatch isn't a franchise film, but previews started earlier, so it's difficult to gauge how big the OD will be just from this. I think anything from $4.5M to $7M is possible. Always a helpful reminder that a score in the 20s doesn't mean critics give it a 2/10 or a 3/10, just that between 7 and 8 out of ten critics felt it wasn't worth recommending.

Indeed. Spoiler Of course, this one also has the worst RT average rating and Metacritic score of the series as well.

Same way if a movie is in the 90% range. Also look at the average rating, because you'll have movies like Doctor Strange with low average ratings but high RT Scores indicating lots of critics enjoyed it, but weren't raving about it. Then you'll have movies like The Passion of the Christ or Dead Man's Chest which has a high average rating for a 49%/52% on the tomatometer respectively. Or like The Wolf of Wall Street is another example, with a tomatometer in the 70% range, but a 7.7 average rating. Showing that the critics that did enjoy it, really enjoyed it.

True. The percentage rating can be slightly misleading at times. I personally enjoyed all Pirates movies at least somewhat, so I don't think this one will be any different for me.
