JB33
So, after bringing in an estimated $163.4M in international grosses over the weekend, F8 now stands unofficially at $744.8M overseas! That's already the 17th biggest overseas tally of all time and it will obviously continue to grow. Anyone think it's got a shot at $1B overseas? The worldwide total is about $908.4M, by the way, after a decent $38.7M weekend domestically. Edited April 23, 2017 by JB33

It has good reviews in China but evidently still very frontloaded with weak legs. Dropped about 70% from last week. Tuesday and Wednesday grosses are estimated at $5 million and $4.64 million respectively.

MrGlass2
Second billionaire of 2017. Quote With Saturday’s grosses factored in, Universal’s The Fate Of The Furious has crossed $1B at the worldwide box office, landing at $1.06B through today. The split is currently $867.6M international and $192.7M domestic. In China, F8 has passed Furious 7 (in local currency) to become the highest-grossing import ever. It’s now at 2.43B RMB and $361M.
Macleod
F8 is beating all these "records"...yet it may not outgross the last film worldwide...and is actually on pace to have a significantly lesser gross in the US than F7 (which did $350m domestic!). F8 may not even get to F6's US haul ($238m). And F8 cost much more, of course. And no one's talking about this. Interesting. Props to F. Gary Gray (first African-American billion-dollar director)...but I get the feeling almost anyone could direct these things and make them passable...they're primarily producer-driven enterprises, just like most of the Marvel Studios films. Anyone notice how Vin Diesel's Producer credit at the beginning of the film lingered longer on screen than anyone else's name? And yes...this movie really could have used a post-credit scene...particularly the one we heard about that was nixed. And not only because of those who went out to 7 for the curiosity factor, but because fans of the franchise put themselves in his shoes. Their audience surrogate is gone. So the franchise has less meaning to some fans. Also, when the franchises emphasizes the theme of family so heavily, the fans have an expectation that the cast exemplifies that theme offscreen. So when two of the biggest stars don't seem to be getting along and very little is being done to calm concerns, the fans who go to the franchise for the theme of family feel betrayed in some way. That would be even further proven if the beef between them was so substantial that one of them did not return for Fast 9. At the moment, he does seem to be coming back for it.
