There's a great film from 1953 written by Dr Seuss called the The 5000 Fingers of Dr T, a film that I think is as good and magical as Wizard of Oz

Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite films and I wish they never made any follow-up (or prequel) film, but Oz: The Great and Powerful could have turned out much, much worse than it did.

 

The Wizard Of Oz is based off a book series though.
