Personally, I think they should have just brought Campbell back and let him bookend Craig’s run as Bond.

Campbell was asked about this in an interview and said he'll only come back to the franchise if it's the first film for Craig's successor. It seems he's only interested in doing the first film for each new actor's run.

Just read that profile you mentioned. It's basically Fukunaga begging Hollywood to give him movies to direct and saying "I will do anything and not complain"

Which is a big plus in EON's eyes.

Which is not to say that Fukunaga is a hack, but he knows that in the end on a Bond film EON will be calling the shots and he is not being hired to make a quirky personal film.

I have some trepidation as to whether Fukunaga's been allowed enough time to prep for such a large undertaking. Lea Seydoux's return is a step in the right direction, especially considering the current climate. Not to mention she's a fantastic actress.

A lot of the prep work that a director usually does is done by Barbara Brocolli and Michael Wilson when it comes to the BOnd films.

Make no mistake, the Producers pretty much call the shots on the Bond films.

Agreed. I think it has a very good chance of doing $500 million minimum now. But that's going off-topic.

This is the second DC film in a row to not have Bond 25 on weekend 2 because of delays

Am I the only one who suspects the opposite, that Bond moving to mid April from a plum Presidents' Day slot in February is a bad sign? Now that April date is Easter weekend so I suppose it's simply moving from one holiday weekend to another but something still doesn't sit quite right with me for some reason.

Maybe MGM is just short on options. I think they would have moved it to Bond's usual November slot but Disney has an MCU film slated for November 6, 2020. November 20 would have been an option too, as that pre-Easter weekend has worked very well for franchises in the past, but Warner Bros. has an untitled event film scheduled on that date.

So yeah, thinking through it now I guess MGM's options are limited and they're trying something new with Bond: Easter weekend.

The untitled WB film is Villeneuve's Dune.

Now it'll probably have the whole remainder of April to itself the same way Winter Soldier and Furious 7 did.
