Kvikk Lunsj
How do you know Disney will make a billion profit again? No facts to back that up lol keep in mind the studio has massive expectations already priced in regardless of what they say publicly. Toys, TV rights, home video sales, 1.3B WW, mobile phone apps, clothing ect.
spizzer
I am surprised anyone with ounce of BO knowledge would think 621m with 3d in 2012 would be bigger than 533m in 2d from 2008. That too number of imaxs exploded since TDK which did sensationally in Imax( 6.3m ow and 50m leggy gross). In fact debate was between TDK and Avatar. We will never know for sure there as well. Yeah TDK and Avatar is the difficult one because we don't have data on Avatar's 3D share later on in the run, though it has been suggested that it grew. I've just stuck to TDK 73M, Avatar 72-75M. Could be higher, could be slightly below.

Hatebox
Disagree. The first already had a record opening. It was highly optimistic to expect this to do even better. Easy to say that now (and if you were saying it long before then kudos) but WOM was clearly there. We can now see that TA was at full capacity, apparently. GiantCALBears
Toys, TV rights, home video sales, 1.3B WW, mobile phone apps, clothing ect. So you just pulled that # out of ur arse? It's ok, reasonable expectation but some times massive movies don't make a profit even if they crush the production budget.

ecstasy
I think it's being fairly considered same with the NBA playoffs tonight.LOL I could see if this was the finals. But this is the first round and the Spurs. They have the lowest rated finals in NBA history. I don't think they are gonna bring the numbers for the first round elimination game. I'm pretty sure Avatar beat it, but it didn't beat it by 20 million tickets as BOM's chart suggests. That chart doesn't take into account high 3D ratios. Even Brandon Gray from BOM wrote an article debunking that when Avatar passed Titanic. At $601m gross, he estimated that it was at 61m tickets. So for Avatar to reach 95m admissions after passing Titanic's $600m gross with 61m admissions, it would have needed an average ticket price of only $4.38 for the next 34 million tickets. Not likely at all given the 75-80% 3D ratio it experienced for pretty much its entire run. I estimate Avatar's ticket total in the 75 million area. TDK is around 70 million.
