Your cheesy comment was mainly due to that shark scene, right?

Seriously, I agree with you...mostly everything about the trailer feelt cooly atmospheric and tense, except for that scene and some shots towards the end of the trailer (looked sorta run-of-the-mill-thrillerish...)

But like you, I am certainly watching the heck out of this.

The cheesy part was the stuff I bolded and I wasn't crazy about the Plan your getaway thing and yes turning into a run of the mill MacGyver episode or something :P

the early parts right up  and before the watch, the flare gun, etc, still kept me intrigued so I am hoping it is more of that :)

Called it earlier but I'm calling it again. This will be a sleeper hit.

Definitely.

The Shay feels it too. I hate all kinds of movies The Shallows represents - but I'll still make an exception and go see it. There's Rrrraw poweRRRrrr here...

This somewhat reminds me of Open Water. That movie was a monster hit (at least for its budget).

Just looked it up. Wow...how come none of the actors or director broke out after that monster hit? I mean studios tend to sign up such directors on a potential big film or franchise..

I did watch Silent House, but I didn't know it was directed by this dude.

He may have another career outside film industry...

Will do 10 Cloverfield Lane'snumber

Yea I have it doing 25/70M and I feel like Sony feels like it can also be a sleeper hit. It has the trailer playing before CW. If it knew it was going to be garbage or something I think they would have put another one of its movie in there instead.

They shows the new trailer in front of Civil War and people seemed into it until the whole planning part and then it got some laughs sadly.  I still think it will do well enough, but i was a bit surprised about the reaction

I saw it in front of CW as well. I didn't get any laughs per se but people were making jokes about Blake Lively in a bikini for 2 hours so there's that. Maybe that's what Sony is banking on. Who knows.

On a side note the trailer has gotten more hits than I thought it would on social media. On the official Twitter page it has 18K retweets and 32K likes which is way more than I thought it would ever get. Also a few other Twitter pages tweeted the trailer saying "it looks so intense" or something and those also have thousands of retweets and likes. On Facebook on its official page it has 133K likes and 85K shares. I don't know if people are retweeting/liking because they're interested or because they think it looks trash or because Blake Lively is in a bikini. I guess I'm over thinking it but I didn't think this movie had a strong presence at all to warrant that much activity via social media.

I find Collet-Serra a pretty underrated director. His past movies are mostly enjoyable so i'm interested in his next one.

Plus i love a good shark movie.

I agree. He's not a great director but's reliable and usually delivers. I liked ORPHAN quite a bit.

Looking forward to THE SHALLOWS.

Jaume Collet Serra is a good director. This though could be alright at best. I"ll watch Deep Blue Sea instead. But I"ll check this one out as a rental.
