This weekend is the calm before the storm.

If Spectre is going to be a storm, the TFA is going to be an asteroid that smacks Earth without warning.  Fire and brimstone coming down from the skies! Rivers and seas boiling! Earthquakes, volcanoes, the dead rising from the grave.  Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!!

I've seen ads for Crisis this week (I think during Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, at some point during the Bones/Sleepy Hollow crossover) plus Sandra on all the entertainment news shows. She even did the fourth hour of Today, saw a clip of Hoda and Kathie Lee trying to get her to talk about her new (hot) boyfriend. So she flogged the movie, it just didn't work. Reviews really did kill its hopes dead, perhaps she and Crown Prince of Busted Oscar Bait Clooney should've switched roles with Tomorrowland and Crisis and both would've done better.

I think maybe BlueSky wants the better advantage. And about Spectre's theater counts........it's surprisingly smaller than other blockbusters this year. At least some of the biggest movies of this year had around over 4,000+ theaters or more...and yet Spectre gets only around under that? What gives?

All three previous Craig films opened within 100 theaters of each other. CR had 3,434, QoS had 3,451, Skyfall had 3,505. Even with the franchise's massive growth it looks like Sony wants to keep the TC comparatively low. Wouldn't surprise me if Spectre gets less than 3,700 theaters. It'll have a huge PTA anyway.

Martian's on track for at least 11M and could reach 12M for the weekend. At this point it'll leg to at least 210M and a finish between 220-230 is probable.

If Fox maintains a good screen count around the time of Oscar nominations, it could leg it up to $220M.

But at current pace, with Spectre, Mockingjay & Episode 7 in the rear view mirror, I don't think it could do more than $210M.

Something to keep in mind is theaters have all these bombs to get rid of before The Martian. They're going to get rid of the Halloween movies before it as well. It's TC will decrease gradually and the weekend drops will continue to be minimal.

FOX finally signed a multi-picture deal with IMAX which includes Deadpool, Independence Day 2, Maze Runner 3 and Wolverine 3. No IMAX for Apocalypse, I guess.

Doesn't Disney already have IMAX for Alice? Guess those 5 weeks will be it for Star Wars in IMAX unless they rerelease it in March.

There will be more movies getting IMAX. Star Wars won't get re-released. Yes, Alice already has IMAX locked.

Excellent point. Fox is laughing right now. The Martian has done precisely what they wanted: 90% of $200 mil will already be in the bank after this weekend but Spectre isn't going to slaughter its TC because so many bombs need to be shown the door first. It could spend 7 weeks in the Top 5.

Holy shit @ Steve Jobs. I haven't seen it, but that drop really feels undeserved.

Even Goosebumps, which i LOVED is just not holding all that well for a kids film.

What?

It had a second weekend drop under 35%. Its third weekend drop could be under 25%. Goosebumps is holding just fine. It could finish up with a 4x multiplier. (Depends a bit on how hard Peanuts hits it next week.)

It might not even leave the Top 10 until December.
