The characters being in the film is the concept of Roger Rabbit.  The concept of Wreck-It Ralph 2 is they go to the internet, not that there's product placement within the internet.

One is a Disney production which utilized its iconic cartoon IP library for marketing/creative purposes.

The other is WIR2.

Unfortunately, I don't feel any hype for the Grinch either. Might end up one of Illumination's lowest-grossing movies considering OS markets are unlikely to embrace it at all (Seuss films have usually bombed OS). For all the criticism aimed at WiR2's latest trailer, that kind of self-referential and pop-culture humor will help sell it big time to a much broader audience.

It is very unlike Illumination to mess up in the marketing department, to me they have been the gold standard of movie marketing this decade. Their efforts in that department have been truly extraordinary and something every single studio's marketing department could stand to learn from in terms of how to appeal to the target demo of a film. In the past they've been able to even sell the hell out of movies that are utter crap (i.e. Minions). So I really find that Grinch trailer odd to say the least. Maybe there's been a lot of shakeups to that marketing team recently?

I mean let's not give them too much credit for their Minions marketing. That film was a slam dunk honestly (though yes props to them for getting that film to $1.1 Billion). But their 2016 was very good and was what showed that they were more than just the "Minions" studio. Idk I'm also feeling like something is off with the marketing too (maybe marketing an adaption for them is more difficult) but until it's proven I'm just going to assume Grinch is going to do well because it's Illumination

I've enjoyed EC's delivery of inside information over the years but his attitude towards others has become progressively nastier and nastier towards a majority of members. You're not gonna win any arguments by turning to personal insults towards those who disagree with you.

He got the weekend thread locked for repeatedly calling people morons.

But Illumination always does so well because of their marketing not their brand name, imo. They're like the inverse Pixar (they typically do well because of their brand name not their marketing). So if the marketing is off, I think that's a big problem for Grinch. But they still have several months to get it on track, so we'll see.

They're slick at marketing, but GRINCH might be facing the same problem SOLO has for King Mickey: not giving a good retort to people asking "why?"

I agree with EC: this is going to be way bigger than the first film. I would not be surprised by a Shrek-2-level increase over the original (which means WIR2 will make over 300 million domestically and over 800 worldwide).

And it will be all thanks to one thing: Disney Princesses.

Moderation:

A little late  (I'm in an ocean somewhere) but can we settle down a little?

How does an animated trailer get people banned? I sense an anti-disney bias inflaming the conversation

In any case... personal attacks will not be tolerated.

Clean it up.

There is no anti-Disney bias, it's the other way around.

In fact, from previous posts, if IIRC, Jandrew would be more pro than anti-Disney, but all in all, he's level headed and objective, which is what is needed for quality posts/posters around here.

There is helluva lot of bias on this site because there are too many undiscerning fanboys.

Anyway, back on topic, I actually enjoyed the WiR2 trailer and didn't mind the princess scene. I guess, I'm not expecting too much from it so that helps. In fact, my problem is more with the fact that Vanellope's search query would not land you at "Oh my Disney" but probably some hardcore violent porn or terrorist propaganda or Brazilian gang murders or something. Fanboyism is tame in the general scheme of the Internet, and that is Disneyfying to the max (shameless etc. whatever)

But, if you forgive that point, then it's alright. In general though, I have less a problem with franchises/sequels that were never really serious in the first place (WiR, Cars 3- only because Pixar's brand had plummeted by then & Cars 2 already cash grabbed its way to irrelevancy before this). I do have a problem with the upcoming Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2 which are outright cash grabs. And please no more revisionist BS on what a cash grab means.

The woke princess bit fell pretty flat, the product placement was over the top. Would've preferred clever imagery and plays on words instead of just slapping logos everywhere. Other than that it was a good looking and enticing trailer.

Not sure how I feel about them making all the princess Frozen-style. Would've been nice to see them stick to the original 2D artistic visions. I guess that's what happens when Frozen makes as much money as it did.

Sorry but there are some movies where product placement is a part of the narrative, part of the joke...this is one of them.

That's exactly what it is, the movie wouldn't be the same without product placement..it's really well thought here, it makes so much sense.

The great audience will eat this up and will love this while a fringe minority like a few ones here will complain but nobody will hear or care about them because the critiicism doesn't make sense.

EmpireCity has been a bit harsh but I understand his reaction: the angry ones are always those being the noisiest and that's annoying because they don't represent the overall audience. I'm not just talking about movies here, I see the same phenomenon on videogames forums and that's why I deserted them. Negative people are annoying and must be avoided like the flea, both on the internet and real life.

I love the principle of this movie and what I saw from it is very exciting and nothing some of you will say will change this, it's a useless, lost battle.

You don't like it? Don't waste your time writing about what you hate, write a bit more about what YOU LOVE: it's healthier for your mind, your community and Humanity as a whole.

LOL Woke Princesses....Toys sales are apparently down so expect over the top product placements from Disney. Its the only reason this was given the greenlight after all.

I can see why they waited 6 years to expand the audience.

The first films domestic numbers leave a lot to be desired for a Disney animated film. $189m, production cost $165m.

I don't love the film, but that's some pretty faulty logic there
