Not surprised at Sausage Party's drop. The audience score is nothing to write home about and WOM is divisive on Twitter. It's another one of those movies that critics appreciate for it's boldness, but yet is a little too bold for the GA.

Suicide Squad and Sausage Party once again lead the weekend. While all three new releases underperformed. Overall the top 12 was at $118.3 million which was up nearly 30 perecent from last year, and the best ever for the multi year! If this keeps going August 2016 could match 2014's record breaking monthly gross.                           Suicide Squad led the weekend with an estimated $20.7 million. It's third weekend hold was just slightly better than Batman V. superman's from earlier this year. Without a real tentpole or blockbuster, Suicide Squad should do fine and make between $295-$300 million domestic.                                         Once again at second place this weekend, Sausage Party at an estimated $15.3 million which dropped slightly better than Neighbors 2:Sorioty Rising earlier this summer. But without any big  R-rated comedies being released until October. Sausage Party should hold decent and make at least between $100-$110 million domestic. The leader of the new releases, War Dogs had a bleh debut with an estimated $14.3 million for the weekend. That debut is director Todd Phillips lowest debut(in terms of attendance) since School For Scoundrels back in 2006. With its strange marketing with glossy backgrounds, Bradley Cooper's face randomly popping up, and Miles Teller dancing around. It was hard to tell what Warner Bros. tried to sell War Dogs as. But don't cry for Warner Bros. they have more potential hits in the fall and holiday seasons. So they should be in good shape. Look for War Dogs to end its run around $40 million domestic.                                             Laika Animation's Kubo and the Two Strings flopped with an estimated $12.6 million, which is the lowest-grossing debut ever for a Laika film. Whether or not, Kubo holds strong remains in question for the next few weeks. But overall look for Kubo to end its run around $40 million domestic.                      The biggest bomb of the weekend was Paramount's biblical epic remake of the 1959 film Ben-Hur which debuted with an horrendous $11.3 million. That debut is less than half of 2014's dud Exodus:Of Gods And Kings, and less than February's Gods Of Egypt. Paramount has been struggling this year with 1 hit, 1 so-so performer, and now 5 bombs! Ben-Hur should dissapear quickly, and make around $25 million domestic.               As for other holdovers, Pete's Dragon held ok which it could climb to the top five in the actuals.        Bad Moms had another solid drop below 30%! Which Bad Moms should make $100 million domestic very soon!

How do you figure $700m? Not challenging, want explanation.

It has enough fuel left in the tank to reach 305-310m DOM. So it would need around 390m from OS. It is already at 310.4m after a 38m weekend with Greece and Japan still left to open. Those 2 should add around 20m. So it only needs 60m from the current markets, which I think will happen.

Predictions for next weekend:

Don't Breathe: 17M

Suicide Squad: 11.4M

Kubo: 9.6M

Sausage Party: 8.4M

War Dogs: 7M

Pete's Dragon: 6.2M

Bad Moms: 6.1M

Ben Hur: 5M

Jason Bourne: 4.6M

The Mechanic: 4M

Mechanic is going to flop so hard. I won't be surprised with less than 3M

I saw the trailer for Mechanic at a theater last weekend, and, no joke, people started conversing with eachother - not about the movie, and not in whispers - half way through.  The trailer couldn't even hold their attention.  I think that is the first time I've experienced that reaction.

Sigh, Trek lost too many theaters starting its second week with Bourne and SS coming in.  I blame Paramount for its numbers.

Overseas numbers are so fun to compare. Anybody want to tell me what's odd about Mission Impossible Rogue Nation's OS #s?

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=mi5.htm

Here's a fun comparison, in which market did MI: RN do 10x+ better than Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=mi4.htm

and 7x+ better than Star Wars The Force Awakens

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?page=intl&id=starwars7.htm

???

Here's a hint, apparently it's OW was 3.6% of its final # in this market. Fun BOM typo, I assume, or amazing box office anomaly.

August's been good this far.

Is at 805m at the moment. With 10 days left it could be the second time august makes it to the billion.

August 22-31 back in 2011 made at least 130m. Odds are not very good that is, but if there are odds there's always hope.
