This is a really cool concept that looks like it might be ruined by awful acting and an inexperienced director. Outside of Weaving, why did they cast a bunch of CW rejects?

Yeah...I don't put much faith in great directors in producer roles if that's what you're implying. Chris Nolan on Batman v Superman or Spielberg on Transformers 2 come to mind.

Nothing new for a while here on a movie that is getting a prime release date not too far off... could this be the guy that gets moved out of a crowded December?

Also - anyone else surprised no one from the Poppins/Alita/Aquaman/Bumblebee weekend is trying to jump up in line a week? Why are all the biggest releases slated for the 12/21 weekend when last couple years Star Wars has debuted in the prior equivalent weekend.

There's going to be more than 1 Christmas tentpole that will flop.

Agreed,,,the market is just too crowded, and there is not just enough box office pit to go around."Mortal Engines" seesm very likely to flop; IMHO the second flop will be either Bumblebee or Alita.

Since Hollywood needs some new franchise blood (they can't keep rebooting the same properties over and over forever), I'm rooting for this to succeed. But I doubt it will.

I want a film to be a big hit that simply is not good franchise material.

I can only credit myself for this idea, but I think I would move Mortal Engines to January at this rate now that Hellboy decided to move. This film would've had a chance at making an impact if the December field wasn't as crowded as it is, but alas, it is as crowded as it is

The book was fun by the way; it started off with a fascinating concept, then it got muddled in the middle a bit with too many cliches of the genre but it actually ended on a pretty high note with some unexpected stuff happening which made me wanna read the next one.

This should be fun.
