Golden Globes 2016

Recommended Posts

I feel like Hill for War Dogs came out of left field. Also had no idea Gold had an original song period.  But ok @ Deadpool! I'd love to see a superhero movie not quite in the mcu win an award like this.

Oooh yeah there IS no Silence anywhere, is there.

I'll take a stab at the Screenplay category, which fortunately is just one award.

Screenplay:

La La Land

Manchester by the Sea

Moonlight

Fences

Arrival

Well, that was pretty wrong. Fences and Arrival were ignored and Nocturnal Animals and Hell or High Water got in instead. Kind of surprising.

Predictions for Best Animated Feature aka only category that matters:

Zootopia

Finding Dory

Moana

Kubo and the Two Strings

Kung Fu Panda 3

We were all wrong!

Finding Dory, Kung Fu Panda 3 and The Secret Life of Pets and The Red Turtle were all snubbed, and My Life as a Zucchini and Sing were nominated.

I dunno if i'd call SLOP a snub but if Sing legit turns out worse....#doubt but I'm glad it's going ignored.

I expected Trolls over Sing, but NOT over Dory! but hey, good for Zucchini.

The Globes loved them some Lion.

And Florence Foster Jenkins with that sneaky supporting actor nod.

ahahaha i actually enjoyed that movie but omg he was so cringey. luckily i think hugh grant is going as a supporting actor everywhere else so THAT won't be a thing.

Shocked that Deadpool got nominated

It's not that shocking. With Zootopia/Moana disqualified and weak competition (Jenkins and 20th Century seem like weak choices), Deadpool took advantage of Ryan Reynolds giving a crowd-pleasing performance like Johnny Depp in the first POTC

Nocturnal Animals has Best Director but not Best Picture?

That perfume Focus Features sent the HFPA could only get them so far, I guess

But the ATJ nom is inspired. Saw the movie today and he killed it, along with Shannon. Don't think it's worthy of a Director nom though.

Im shocked. I knew Reynolds would get a nom but not the movie itself. It's the first super hero movie to be nominated for a best picture at the Golden Globes. And I think Reynolds is the second actor (behind Ledger) to get a nod for a super hero movie.

So it is surprising.

Damn, Silence got shut out :jeb!: On the contrary, they loved Nocturnal Animals (but not enough for Picture)

Can't say I'm surprised by Arrival only getting 2 nominations.

X gave it to the HFPA as well :jeb!:

Billy Bob got in for that random Amazon show

I'm disappointed nocturnal animals got all those nods and no drama nom. ATJ over mike shannon is a surprise, but not a bad one.

btw i hated captain fantastic wtf.

Some on AwardsWatch have been saying for a bit now that Mortensen could sneak into Actor. Tom Hanks wasn't nominated here so I'm curious if this continues going into SAG. If anyone surprises, I'm hoping for Chris Pine.

that mortensen nod is random as fuck. since a lot of nocturnal love was going around i was thinking maybe gyllenhaal. i'm really surprised no one is talking about that performance. i think out of those five he's the most likely to get switched out for gosling w/ oscars. hacksaw clearly garfield's oscar ticket at this point. silence can hopefully still get a directing nod the category has two open spaces and they love him.

jenkins, chazelle, lonergan clearly locked. then i'll say scorsese gets in. then between villeneuve/gibson/david mackenzie for last spot i'd say.
