Comparing it with population, however take further 90% of that for diluting Canada affect.

e.g.

California 11.9% ~ 10.8%

Texas 8.68%

Florida 6.44%

NY 5.9%

No real thoughts on It 2 as I've fallen down a VERY interesting rabbit hole on Fandango.

(No, it's not Pulse related before anyone gets their hopes up)

It'd be even more interesting if I had kept up with my computer programing skills. :ph34r:

But let's just say I accidentally found a way reliably get the seat map of available and unavailable seats of any particular showing in text form.

Right now it might be a bit more time consuming to do it the way I'm poking about on.  But if I can figure out some ways to speed up the process, the time I spend counting seats might be greatly quickened. Emphasis on might.

Gory details behind a spoiler bar.

Spoiler

Alright, long story here.  I was messing around with my iPad on the Fandango website. And for reasons which are unimportant right now, I had also installed a javascript bookmark that let me look at the HTML source code of a webpage.

Well just because I was looking for some things, I loaded up this bookmark for the actual seatmap of a random showing.  And instead of getting the partial HTML code like I normally do when looking at a HTML code on Chrome or Safari on my desktop, I got the entire blessed thing.  All elements expanded and everything.

Which... Well buried in the HTML code for this particular showing was the following (the important bit is at the end of each line):

id="E12" style="left: 85.45593%; top: 75.66374%; width: 5.016625%; height: 5.015125%; " class="standard reservedSeat ariaUnavailable" tabindex="0" role="checkbox" aria-checked="true" aria-label="Seat E12 - Unavailable Seat">

****IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!****

I took out DIV tags from each line of the HTML code above that was causing the forum to break every got drat time I tried to post it, even within the code section (which shouldn't happen as far as I know).  But they WILL be in there if one looks for what I am talking about.

I also messed around with the formatting in a text editor a little to make it more readable for human eyes, as it was all on one line in the actual HTML source.

****IMPORTANT NOTE!!!!!!****

I don't think it takes a genius to realize that if one could automate the extraction this information, it could speed up the counting of any one showing tremendously

Now this doesn't tell one what is a sold seat and what was a never available for purchase seat, sadly.  So it's not perfect.  And there are some other fiddly bits. For instance, it'll differentiate between an available standard seat, an available wheelchair slot, and an available wheelchair assistant seat, if it's available for purchase.

But if something is unavailable, it no longer differentiates between the three types of seats and simply reports it as "Seat:  XX - Unavailable Seat".

Anyway if I run text search for "- This seat is available" (the "- " at the beginning is important so you don't pick up other instances of the phrase in the HTML code) or "standard availableSeat", I get the number of standard seats still available for purchase

You'd still have to run a separate search for wheelchair companion seats and wheelchair slots, but that's also pretty quickly countable on its own in many cases.

If I know how many seats were available for purchase in the first place, it becomes a simple matter of subtraction to figure out how many tickets have been sold for a showing.

====

I'm still messing around with this a little bit.  Okay, a lot. :lol:   But it's now super late on the Left Coast, so I'm stopping for the night.

The javascript I used to get this HTML source can be found on this page.

I simply copied that javascript example and made it a bookmark in Chrome.  Then I went to a random showing on Fandango, got to the actual seat map page and clicked on the bookmark.  The entire source code then opened up in a separate tab, allowing me to quickly search for the terms I mentioned above, along with how many times that search term was found (obviously it's that number which I care about).

NOTE::: The above is findable after going through a bunch of hoops and extra steps on the normal javascript console on Chrome.  The beauty of that javascript bookmark is it dumps it all on one page WITHOUT having to do a bunch of extra clicks - and it's the possible time saving feature which is most important here.   At least for me.

I have absolutely no idea if any of the above is useful to literally anyone other than myself.  But I strongly suspect it will be useful info for Yours Truly once I figure out some streamlining procedures.

Probably won't be worth it when I'm checking showings with only a few seats sold or not many seats available in the first place.

But for those ugly showings with seats scattered all over the place?  And when I have over 200 showings to check?

Well let's just say I am following this rabbit hole to see if I can't find a way to make it interesting. :ph34r:

Effin finally got it to post without breaking the forum!!!! :lol: Why it worked in my PM section but not the open forum I have no idea.

Gonna have to make a slight edit to my prior post to mention what I took out though. 👍

It sold 112 tickets today but 2D sales are extremely weak. What works in its favor is ginormous show count and so with "good walkins" it will hit good previews. Anything below double digit will be bad.

  Reveal hidden contents

2d sales are the last thing the AMC subscriber base wants, since the premiums are included in their subscriptions.  When 2d sales are very weak, it seems to be a sign the regular (non-subscriber) GA are not jumping on board quickly for a movie.  This isn't a death knell for a horror movie b/c it is the most (or almost the most) walk up friendly movie type...but it's something to worry about...

I downloaded HTML Viewer Q on my iPhone, and there’s a search function when the code is displayed. I searched “standard reservedseat”, and it gave me the number of times it appeared. It was the number of unavailable seats, though most theaters didn’t differentiate unsold unavailable seats, and sold unavailable seats(excluding wheelchair seats).

However, the app is pretty slow and freezes a lot. So it probably won’t end up being easier. But you’re definitely onto something here.

sold another 119 tickets since yesterday night. Some prime time 2d shows are filling up. I think ginormous show count its seeing in big plexes should help it put good preview numbers. I think 10m+ will happen. May be closer to 12m

Hoping for 11+, but I wouldn't call it a disaster (using that term loosely) unless it goes under 10

So what you say is the most likely result for It 2 Thursday. I really want It 2 to get as close as possible to $12M

Yeah, I can see why this might choke a phone, though if it's the app itself, there is that javascript bookmark I mentioned (I save it as a bookmark within my web browser).  However might just be a issue with limited memory on a phone, period.

On my iPad, it's fairly stable.  However Apple, in its infinite wisdom, has decided that Safari on the iPad should report "more than 100 results" for very large searches within a webpage.  Which is less than perfectly helpful.

However, as a bookmark on Chrome on my desktop it's really efficient. 👍

====

If more technically inclined peeps want to know, I found that section of code buried pretty deeply within the HTML code.

It starts at:

(form method="post" action="https://tickets.fandango.com/transaction/ticketing/express/SeatPicker.aspx" id="frmSeatPicker")

("<" and ">" replaced with "(" and ")" so it'll display properly)

Then under quite a ways under that is this:

(script type="text/javascript" src="https://images.fandango.com/r1.0.1346/seatpicker/seatmaps/js/cnmk_aaxzv_1.js")

("<" and ">" replaced with "(" and ")" so it'll display properly)

In that script is where the actual seat info resides if one manages to get the entire HTML code to pop up (technically the seat info immediately afterwards is on the same line as the above code when I saved it as text off of Chrome's built in HTML viewer).

I only mention those two pieces of code for any of the programmers out there who might be thinking of scrapers, so they know what to look for.

Either way, I think I hammered out a way to speed up my procedures on my end doing my manual counts, so that's the more important thing for me. But, who knows, maybe someone can use this info to their advantage.  At the very least it might help when doing manual counts for other folks if they can figure out fast ways to do searches within their web browsers.
