The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

It's actually the AMC subscribers, who are allowed to buy any premium seats for free with their subscriptions, just getting their tickets...this early in the prebuy process, those folks are getting their movie going schedules set up, and they usually are buying every big blockbuster (if they weren't interested in most of them, they'd just go with the cheaper, and less movie-going focused Cinemark pass).

Combine that with uber fans, the only other ones buying this early, and you see a crap ton of premium seats sold...

No wonder cinema chain have the gut to increase their ticket price for premium format. Clearly size matters.

My Dallas AMC added a 10:15 IMAX showing that wasn't there at first.  The IMAX and Dolby theaters are pretty well sold for opening night.  The regular theater has 3 seats sold.  Definitely a premium theater bias!  We are seeing it in IMAX, so excited for that.

Eternals

North Shore Cinema

Mequon, WI (23 days before previews, 24 days before release)

11/4/21

6:00 - 7/147

7:00 - 46/301 - Ultrascreen

8:00 - 2/147

117% of Thor Ragnarok (T-32/T-33) ($142.77M OW)

Considering that, this is the start of presales a day later for both, it is pretty damn impressive that Eternals is doing this well.

I just don’t understand what’s going on in my region. Eternals just isn’t having the same level of sales all of you are seeing. It’s below Dune (in some places, quite significantly) in a lot of British Columbia theaters. Idk, maybe the next few weeks will pick up.

Halloween Kills MTC1

Previews - 30394/208699 460522.16 1262 shows

OD - 45767/550416 685746.49 3080 shows

It looks like having a big OD for sure.

How does this compare to other mid-sized openers like Jungle Cruise or Free Guy or Suicide Squad?

Showcount is really small. But Suicide squad was at 41490/300421 690708.58 1604 shows at around 2PM wednesday and I dont see how HK misses that number. Plus with OD sales already about 50% higher it will have big OD to previews ratio. I am not sure how movies like these perform with walkups to comment on exact number so early.

Horror, in theory, is the strongest genre for walkups. Let's see if that holds.

Very strong start and well ahead of Shang-Chi (behind Widow slightly though). I'm not surprised the late PLF shows aren't gaining much traction; the runtime is going to be a deterrent like it was for NTTD. Week of sales should pick up for those shows.
