Doesn't look like reactions did much, except to keep it pretty flat from yesterday's increase. It was already a good boost yesterday, so I wouldn't even say that the small decrease is bad.

Broncos - need to fire their entire coaching staff yesterday

Rockies - will never be a serious contender until the pigfarming Monforts sell the team

Nuggets - legitimate title contender, provided they get a healthy Jamal Murray back

Avalanche - current betting favorites to win the Stanley Cup

Mammoth (NLL) - figure to be a playoff team again

Rapids - Apparently really good, but I don't care since I hate soccer

Unsurprisingly, all four playoff caliber teams in town are owned by the Kroenkes (who also own the LA Rams, Arsenal, and formerly the AFL's Colorado Crush). Kroenke was a billionaire on his own and then he married a Walmart heiress, so he has unlimited funds and it helps.

Kroenke was wealthy but not nearly a billionaire before marrying into Walton family. He didn’t start Kroenke Group until nine years after that. His wealth came from his strip malls being anchored by Wal-Mart.
Kroenke is a strange guy who would bleed evil if he got a paper cut.

Kroenke is a strange guy who would bleed evil if he got a paper cut.

Evil or not, he's the best owner in Colorado right now.

The Broncos are owned by the Pat Bowlen trust. Pat Bowlen was a great owner but none of his children have fulfilled all of the preconditions he placed on one of them being granted majority control of the team (minimum number of years working for the team, clean criminal record, higher secondary degree (PHD, law school, medical school, etc)). So they've just been in limbo since he stepped down due to Alzheimer's and later died. It's been like ten years of limbo. One of his sons was being groomed for years but he keeps getting in trouble with the law. One of his daughters has the experience with the team and the acumen but not the education. Another has the education but not the team experience. Some of his other kids just want to sell the team and be done with it. NFL rules state they can all share ownership but only one of them can be controlling owner and they can't agree. But one thing is for sure, Pat Bowlen wouldn't have stood for the gong show the Broncos have been these last four years. During his time actually running the team the Broncos had the best winning percentage in the NFL.

And the Rockies? Their owners won't stop getting DUIs and shipping the best infielders in baseball (Nolan Arenado, DJ LeMahieu, soon Trevor Story) outta town for nothing. They freaking paid the Cards 50 million dollars to take Arenado and they didn't even make an offer to LeMahieu (statistically the best defensive second baseman in history and a batting champion), who later signed with the Yankees for the same amount that the Rockies gave Ian Desmond.

So I'll bow down to my evil corporate overlord because he's brought this town an NLL title, MLS title, Arena Bowl Championship, and Stanley Cup title since he bought the teams (he didn't yet own the Avs for their 1996 title).

And he doesn't get DUIs or sell our best players and was, at last check, not dead. So that's a bonus.

The disparity between PLF screens and regular for Dune here is staggering. People are avoiding the regular screenings as if the theaters have COVID.

Thursday Cinemark: (15)

6 XD (7), 945 XD (5)

630 (0), 730 (0), 830 (0), 1015 (3)

7 3D (0)

Friday Cinemark: (37)

245 XD (6), 630 XD: (31), 1015 XD (0)

1 (0), 440 (0), 820 (0)

530 3D (0), 915 3D (0)

The Cinemark presales aren't fantastic but this Cinemark rarely does well with sales if you notice my tracking. Only for the MCU and weirdly Halloween Kills last week (this is tracking extremely below that here).

The AMC has Dolby and IMAX so they will be the bigger theater for Dune.

The numbers are better than HK.

Why no make better OW numbers.

Just saying

Halloween is an established franchise in the US, whereas Dune is not. HBO Max will affect Dune more than Peacock did to Halloween. Halloween is horror, which is less presale-heavy and more reliant on walkups than traditional blockbusters.

Don't forget the season appeal of a horror movie in mid October.

When Ron's Gone Wrong goes low this weekend, I blame Disney for burying a great animated movie just b/c they didn't make it.  Screening tonight loved the movie, clapping at the end, as did my whole fam (including the spouse who loved it even more than I did)...more thoughts in the movie thread...

To keep this on tracking, it did stay single screened at both my Cinemarks...so, it's going low, even though it's pretty great.

And to link to tracking even more, the free screening only showed the 2 Disney animateds for previews - Encanto and Turning Red - no one reacted to either in theater, so at least for 2021, I wouldn't get my hopes spectacularly high for animated box office yet...

Eternals MTC2

Thursday:

Showtimes: 1966

Seats Sold: 23663/320507 (+1838)

$ sales: 338191 (+25961)

Good bump from reactions. More than doubled yesterday's pace. Hopefully the pace doesn't drop too much in the following days (a drop is surely inevitable though). Needs to sustain at least some of this boost to avoid falling too far behind BW.

Dune MTC2

Thursday:

Showtimes: 1709 (+478)

Seats Sold: 23575/248493 (+3568)

$ sales: 330144 (+48813)

Ok bump I suppose. Unfortunately can't really use the Bond comp today with that Atom/TMobile inflation. Problem is, I have nothing else good. Bond added 5700 tickets on Wednesday, I suppose Dune can match that with normal bumps. I'm expecting it to catch up to Bond (true Thurs) by my final run on Thursday. 5ish previews.

Fridays for both are taking too long and not sure when I will be back at my computer to post. Will have those tomorrow.
