The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Deadline reporting that an insider told them that they'd be happy with anything over 300M worldwide for Dune:

Quote

While extremely few, if any, tentpoles are profiting now in the hobbled global marketplace, insiders tell me that a global take for Dune in the $300M+ range will make many happy from an image-standpoint, even if breakeven is far north of that.

Predicting 30-35M opening domestic, 40M overseas depending on China.

Feels like a lowball, but China and US OW are definitely hard to pin down right now so who knows.

Is this day-and-date on HBO in UK? Or anywhere else outside of the US?

No HBO Max in the UK, and the recent rollout in Latin America doesn't include day and date movies.

The exact quote is

"What’s making predictions hard to nail right now is that we hear from exhibition (not Fandango) that presales for Dune are squashing everything that’s come before it, i.e. No Time to Die, Shang-Chi, F9, Black Widow. "

which is utterly insane.  Unless they're only talking to Canadians.

Only place Dune is "crushing" everything in the States is PLFs.

Only the US gets it day and date.

Latin America will get the movie about a month after it hits theaters there.

Even in Canada, Bond would be ahead.

Maybe exhibitors are just talking out of their ass to drum up excitement?
