The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

No one can pretend this is a rush to see movie. It's a well there is nothing else let's go see this stupid yet awesome looking movie (meg but a tiny bit better).

Can't see a low preview multiplier because of all these adjusted comps were atrocious like 1-2 days ago. I bet if it hits 6.0 it hits 60. If it hits 5.5 still might get close to 60.

If it's 4.5 yeah not 60. If it's 6 because Deadline sucks sure maybe.

Deadline did give a 4.5-5 in its write up.  So it might get as high as 5.5m if it is lolDeadline once again.  6m is probably a bit too much to ask for though.  Even if that would make me look much better. ;)

I got nothing, usually I would give a tight range within 1 million.

For tonight lol 3.5-6.5. Also not confident about that haha

Typically, Fast & Furious movies overindex on the West Coast and deliver a huge Hispanic turnout.

You know, that could be an explanation.  We do have a pretty healthy Hispanic community out here.  Could explain why it exploded out here today.  And I can't call it anything other than an explosion, FWIW.

Fandango API?

I admit im still learning a lot. Im trying Toronto Canada numbers and admittedly old fashioned look at seat counts for the theatres that will give them ( on seat sale screen) lol.

Im probably doing this the hard way lol

That could explain Denver too

There is no Fandango API anymore.  It's gone and dead.  Kaput.  I'd do the Dead Parrot sketch here, but I don't feel like re-working the whole thing.

I know @Menor has developed a scraper of sorts for Cinemark at an individual movie level, though how it exactly works and what they exactly do, I'm still a little unsure on.

But most of us are just back to the stone ages of pulling up a seat map of a showing in question and counting the actual seats sold.

No magic bullet or timesaver out there, I'm afraid.  Not 'till someone designs an all-purpose scraper of some sort or another.  And since none of us are paying anyone for the time to do it I wouldn't expect much on that front outside of a hobbyist getting interested in the challenge for a challenge sakes.

It: Chapter Two Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-35 and Counting

Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold
TOTALS 0 56 244 11,929 2.05%

Total Seats Sold Today: 218

It added a bunch of theaters, showings, and total seats, but I'm lazy and don't want to look into it, so....whatever.

Anyways, for what is basically the first day, this is...fine. From what I remember in my Pulse tracking days, horror films typically didn't make much of anything until the last few days of release, so this seems like a relatively solid start all things considered. Should also mention a couple theaters don't have showtimes up yet (I guess it's still a bit too early to plan things for some theaters?).

Would I wish it would have done better? I guess, but it's still a solid beginning and hopefully there are good things to come.

I tried to get it over 5, boys.  I even pulled out Pika Pika.  Deadline might be right on the money.  I feel like John Wick's the best comp.  That's coming in at 4.6M in Previews.

I will say despite my histrionics, I'm actually not THAT panicked.  Concerned?  Alarmed?  Oh, very much so.  I just hope it fines its Summer legs in the draught we call August.  It's not like next week another tentpole's coming out to snatch all those screens.  So, weekend should be fun.  We will see.

Yep its pretty much what im doing as well. It takes time and im still finding out which theatres have seat reservations vs general seating (which i dont get seat counts on the sales screen. So i might have 8 theatres i want to check but only 4 give me the check seating chart option)

Just for clarity im not DOING 8 theatres only 3 right now lol. Just stating not all theatres have reserved seating. Ive found 4vl that gives me seat count possibilities 😊

Yeah, one of the local chains doesn't have their showings up yet, either.  Counts for four theaters I normally track.  Happened with KotM as well.

Gonna knock off a fair amount of the ticket sales, but I'll just note it and move on.

It's incredibly early of course, but Hobbs starts with 94% user rating on RT with over 200 verified user votes.

Will go down of course, but not a bad place to start from at all. Hopefully some decent WOM will bring out the crowds this weekend.
