Dora and the Lost City of Gold Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-2 and Counting

Sellouts Showings Seats Sold Total Seats Perct Sold
TOTALS 0 38 102 6,434 1.59%

Total Showings Added Today: 5

Total Seats Added Today: 563

Total Seats Sold Today: 10

Adjusted Comp

0.02x of The Lion King 2 days before release (524K)

Yeah yeah yeah, poor comp to use, but I feel like selling only 10 tickets is pretty bad. I'm hoping it's just my area, but if this is supposed to break out, it should have probably done much better today. Maybe Wednesday and Thursday can change things aroun

I think it would be selling a lot better in the west coast like Hobbs and Shaw did because of the larger Hispanic population (which this movie is clearly targeting towards).

FWIW, Denver is also pointing towards about 500K

The Wrap:

Dora: low $20M (Paramount is expecting $15M)

Scary Stories: mid-to-high teens

The Kitchen: $9-14M

Racing in the Rain: $6-8M

And Jeff Bock of Exhibitor Relations says to expect a lot of underperformers.

I actually have a feeling Scary Stories could overtake Dora. But like other said, it could just be Del Toro and horror fans buying tickets early.

Scary Stories, counted today at ca. 10 am EST (one hour earlier than usually so it was a bit to the disfavour of the new movies but will lead to better increases tomorrow):

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 53 (total tickets sold for Thursday) / 34 (total tickets sold for Friday, 6 showtimes)
Boston (AMC Assembly Row 12): 10 / 30 (4 showtimes)
Boston (Boston Common 19): 25 / 23 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 53 /19 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 29 / 24 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 8 / 6 (5 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Center Point 11, probably very recently added): 2 / 6 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 139 / 119 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Bay Street): 68 / 45 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 258 / 169 (5 showtimes)
Total tickets sold in 10 theaters till Wednesday for Thursday: 645 and for Friday: 475.
I hoped for a bit more today but that's still ca. 2.5x of what Crawl had on Wednesday (261 / 209 in 10 theaters). Still pretty good and as mentioned, I counted a bit too early today.

The Kitchen (I think I saw one theater with Thursday showtimes but it was not one of mine):

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 23 (total tickets sold for Friday, 6 showtimes)
Boston (AMC Assembly Row 12): 50 (4 showtimes)
Boston (Boston Common 19): 20 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 27 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 4 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9 → Barton Creek instead): 22 (5 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Center Point 11): 0 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 100 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Bay Street): 39 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 89 (5 showtimes)
Total tickets sold in 10 theaters till Wednesday for Friday: 374.
That's above what Stuber (8.2M OW) sold till Wednesday for Friday (285 tickets) but I guess without Thursday shows the Friday should be better, no? 10M OW could become tough if it doesn't really jump tomorrow.

The Art of Racing in the Rain:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): still no showtimes
Boston (AMC Assembly Row 12): 14 (total tickets sold for Thursday) / 12 (total tickets sold for Friday, 4 showtimes)
Boston (Boston Common 19): 9 / 16 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 5 / 15 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 7 / 4 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 5 / 12 (4 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Center Point 11): 2 / 0 (4 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 35 / 44 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Bay Street): 9 / 2 (5 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 11 / 13 (5 showtimes)
Total tickets sold in 9 theaters till Wednesday for Thursday: 97 and for Friday: 118.
Of course that's not good and the only comp I have it even more depressing: TLK had on Wednesday 9.101 and 9.705 sold tickets. Oh my, but it has still some time left and/or maybe it's a crowd-pleaser.

So looks like most the folks tracking it are seeing the same thing.  Scary Stories is out pre-selling Crawl at the same point in time.

Two questions then are:

1) Is there a relative fan run to buy the tickets early (name producer attached vs brand new property)?

2) How quickly did the WOM kick in for Crawl during its OW and how quickly (good, bad, indifferent) will it spread for Scary Stories?

Don't really know the answer to either question, but being 2.5 to 3 times Crawl is an encouraging sign for SStTitD, I would think.

Did they ever officially announce It chapter 2 tickets as being on sale?

Yeah, last weekend. The featurette that released was meant to be the official sales announcement (and Fandango and WB announced it first on their Twitter accounts). Also I think the most recent TV spots say tickets are on sale.

The final theater finally posted their showings, though only starting from 7. So, they’ll probably expand it next week, and there should be over 100 showings.

Soooooo not seeing art of racing now.

I won't be either, not at my theatre. Of this weekend's wide releases, only Dora, Scary Stories and Kitchen are playing.

Are you not tracking IT?

He said *worth* tracking.

As of right now, it’s not doing much. I’ll treat it the same way I got through college, start at the last minute and get within 10% of a perfect score :hahaha:

I understand you, but at the same time, I think early tracking is gonna be pretty useful for Halloween 2 and 3 coming up.  Plus any other horror that looks to break out.

Right now we have a shortage of comps for It 2 and I'm thinking it'll be useful for other mega horror flicks that come down the pike.
