The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Good for you. But nothing was pointing towards that prior to release.

Hmm, TS4 definitely underperformed though. Domestically, overseas and overall worldwide. Also missed industry tracking on opening weekend.

It did underperform then had insane legs. If jokes has 3.6x I will die from a heart attack of shock. Hope Saturday holds up well and does 30+  like 32 or something.

In the end 1.058B isnt disappointing for many films. Would have been for EG, Lion King, and a couple others. 433 domestic is awesome.

okay, playing the "what's on sale" game

next Thursday, we've got

Addams Family starting at 4

Gemini Man starting at 7

Jexi starting at 7

Thursday Oct 17, we've got

Maleficent starting at 7

Zombieland starting at 7

on Wednesday Oct 16

Zombieland Double Tap Double Feature

on Halloween Thursday, we've got

Terminator starting at 7

On Friday November 1 we have

Arctic Dogs starting in the morning, with no Thursday night shows

on Thursday November 14,

Charlies Angels starting at 4

on Nov 13, a

Charlies Angels Girls Night Out special showing

On Friday November 22 and Saturday Nov 23

Knives Out Early Access Screening, which is not on sale yet

For Tuesday, Nov 26

Knives Out stating at 7 (also not on sale yet)

so what's NOT on sale?

for October, the 3 movies currently listed as wide release on the 25th-Black and Blue, Countdown, and Current War

for November, most everything-Harriet, Motherless Brooklyn, Doctor Sleep, Last Christmas, Midway, Playing With Fire, Ford v Ferrari, Good Liar, 21 Bridges, Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, Frozen 2, and Queen&Slim

(Note- I'm just listing the BOM wide releases)

so what's going on sale next? (besides Knives Out obviously, which is listed as 130 minutes coincidentally)

The remaining wide releases for October should go on sale within 10 days. Frozen 2 might not go on sale until the weekend after Maleficent. We'll see if that Disney ticket schedule changes. Star Wars could drop at any point over the next 2 months. From the other November movies, Doctor Sleep might make some sense to put on sale in the month of October. Studios might be hoping that Midway and Ford v Ferrari are big enough to justify putting on sale reasonably early. Of course with Knives Out being listed this early, anything could be next, maybe even Queen&Slim or Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

Also, for a "Girls Night Out" early preview, Last Christmas might have been a better choice than Charlies Angels.

Don't want to be that guy. But UM ACTUALLY, there are a couple theaters around me that have the October 25th openers up. Black and Blue and Current War start at 7, while Countdown looks to be starting at 8.

Also Harriet is having previews at 7, and I didn't know until now it's going straight to wide. Maybe the lukewarm reviews meant Focus wanted to get as much money as possible upfront.

Good info all around.

I was only going by my local theaters only.

Also, while I'm here, let me ask: what is your opinion on Terminator preview numbers?

Thanks to All Hallows Eve, the previews-to-OW ratio is going to be a crapshoot, making that exact Thursday night number somewhat meaningless in this instance. Or do you think people will just be more likely to show up for 8 o'clock or 9 o'clock shows as opposed to the earlier 7pm ones?

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil Greater Philadelphia Area Seat Report T-12 and Counting

0.589x of Hobbs & Shaw 12 days before release (3.42M)

This really needs to do well the next few days. It's been lagging behind Hobbs & Shaw, the best comp so far, at an alarming rate. Sub-40M could happen if things don't shape up.

This wasn't an amazing day per se, but rising comps are always a good thing, and that 3M is a much more believable preview number at the moment.

Malficent 2 Previews (T-12)

AMC(747 shows): 8590/155531

It has got Imax and Prime at Empire 25 but not dolby. I wonder if Joker will keep some PLF beyond Malficent release. I am not sure if its good or bad. Only time will tell. Of course show count is well below joker but they are not comparable.

Looking at Joker Sunday seating charts in Salt Lake, I'm not seeing much, if any, fall off from yesterday until we get to the very last showings, 9:55 PM and later. That 35% projected drop from Saturday looks very attainable from this vantage point.
