The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Just a query. Do shows start in West Cost at same time as East coast as in say 7PM in both. I mean that would make sense for a small film but...

In a film like Endgame, no one would want to wait for a film 3 hour more in same countries just because of stupid timezone.

So do they play films say at 4 in West and 7 in East.

Nope.  It's always according to local time.  Only exceptions are if a live event is being broadcast to a theater.

I would also add that "those stupid timezones" often mean that people are still at work or coming home for work.   Or even in school for the earlier showings. ;)

As it is, 4pm and 5pm are already sacrificing people who are at work or in traffic and so forth.

AMC and Cinemark or Regal?

They prefer to not name them for sake of trying to keep questions from outsiders down. MTC1 has always been AMC though going back to Notfabio and other older tracking thats no longer around.

But you arent wrong :) if you have time earlier discussions a month or so ago would give you insight into the change.

Wouldn't be surprised if ROS previews fall in the 37-40M range at this point. 175-185 OW is still massive, but yea, if this doesn't rebound like revenge of the sith did I'd say it was a marketing failure. Palpatine = cool gimmic, but beyond that it's hard to tell what fans and audiences want.

no one expected an opening above TLJ, its about the legs, but below 200m OW would be worrisome to Disney

Pssh, it’s easy. All they want is a fun but thoughtful movie that spends time developing characters but also doesn’t change them too much, that builds upon but also completely rejects TLJ, that respects the original trilogy characters without having them draw too much focus, that respects the PT without trying to pretend it was good, that makes Reylo shippers happy, that makes Reylo haters happy, that’s a conclusive ending but also leaves the door open for more, that finally gives a satisfying answer to mystery boxes without removing them of their mystery or contradicting TLJ, that has real stakes but also doesn’t kill any characters that they like, that gives Rose an actual reason to exist but doesn’t focus on her too much, that makes Finn and Poe a couple but doesn’t do anything gay, that makes Palpatine feel like  real threat while also definitively disposing of him at the end. Oh, and that does but doesn’t have Ewoks.

I mean really, is that so hard?

I mean really, is that so hard?

I mean here's the thing tho. "Reylo shippers" or "Reylo haters" are a loud but vocal minority on the internet. The majority of audiences don't care. Only hardcore fans are calling for a true rejection of TLJ; they can easily build on it while not going in the same direction.

As far as respecting the PT... I think trying to ignore everything about it has been a mistake on Disney's part. I won't go into a lot of the other points you've made (but I totally understand them), the thing is that a professional writer should be able to at least address these issues in a 2 hour script, and a marketing team should be able to make an appealing-looking movie. I loved the latest trailer, but buzz has been somewhat muted.
