is joke? my local theater sold about 25k in tickets :)

Lol yea. Canada usually does about 10% of what the US does, so it’s somewhere around $5.5-6.5M in presales right now.

What is the most ticket sold theater so far?

In India I have a theater selling 7k tixs for opening day so far on 20 shows. May get may be 6 more shows eventually for OD of 9-9.5k tixs.

About 7k US as well looks like. Should go over 10k final.

There is one thing noteworthy about NWH compared to every last mega preview movie I've ever tracked.

The absolute lack of sellouts locally.

Very slightly vexing as well, as sellouts make a count go by faster as I no longer have to check that showing

What I can't figure out is if it is the sheer amount of showtimes (about 25% more than EG at this point in time, even if I don't count a theater that opened up literally a couple of days before EG premiered), lingering concerns about the 'rona, or being people being ultra-hyped but not so hyped as they have to see it opening night.  Or some combination of all three.

(and it's not really Xmas at play here, IMO, as even though that's a factor, SW films regularly sell out at this time of the calendar)

What I am seeing is showtimes at the better theaters in town fill up as showtimes get added (72 tickets of those sold today went to three showtimes at the local SMG which were added a couple of days ago [SMG Rocklin is one of the highest trafficked theaters in the region]).  But outside of the PLF screens at the best theaters in a region, I am seeing something of a wall being hit as it approaches capacity.

Waaaaay back in the day, before I fully transitioned to a seat count, I tracked by some arbitrary measurements of sellouts and percentage of capacity.  Mostly for my own curiosity, and on the off chance I might still want it, I still track that info on my home sheets.

Out of the 313 reserved seating showings:

1 is 95% sold or more

3 more are between 90% and 95% sold

46 more are at the equivalent of front two rows of seats or less, but less than 90% sold

and finally 9 more are between "front two rows" and 75% sold.

To put it another way:

90%+ sold: 4

80%-89%: 14

70%-79%: 44

60%-69%: 54

50%-59%: 55

40%-49%: 27

30%-39%: 21

20%-29%: 19

10%-19%: 26

0%-9% :    49

This is really unusual for this type of film as I should be getting some sellouts by now.  The only thing that is selling out are the DBOX "showings" (which I now track at the seat level but don't count as a separate showtime/sellout).  There we actually have 9 sellouts out of 18 DBOX showings for an overall 338/363 (93.11% sold).

But there does seem to be a... resistance to getting those least desirable seats, except at the creme de la creme of locations, and even there the sellouts aren't happening.  The upper bowl of various auditoriums will sell rather easily.  But the closer to the screen, and more toward the aisle?  Real resistance there.

Curious to see if the wall will be breeched at any point and if the spice will flow sellouts will start to come.

Sure hope so, if only coz it speeds up the track.

If this is 'rona hesitation, might mean a stronger IM after all.  If this is more of finally meeting demand for a highly anticipated Marvel flick, maybe not as much.  Gonna be curious to see how it all shakes out in the end.  Especially with all of those showtimes available in the 60% capacity and under region.

I definitely think it’s a bit of both. Anecdotally, I know people on both groups.

1) People are looking for less packed showtimes or waiting a few days in general. This is the Rona’ weary crowd. They’d normally see it Thursday/Friday but aren’t so MCU hyped that they have to see it immediately.

2) I know people who want to see it but don’t feel the urge to buy tickets early that they might have with Endgame.

As for multiplier and legs, I think if the early reviews are good and the WOM just says it’s worth seeing (doesn’t even need to be hyperbolic), I think IM should be over 5 and legs over 2.8x

Biggest thing that stands out to me is the 32% increase in Eternals shows.  I had to double count just to make sure that was right.  I guess there's a push to get everyone to catch up on MCU before Spider-Man.  West Side Story is pretty comparable to recent musicals In the Heights (55,061) and Dear Evan Hansen (50,762), while National Champions is in the Show Me the Father (15,629), Joe Bell (13,994) and Zola (16,722) range.

Not really surprised. The trailers looked dud to me.

There weren't any Early Access shows. The closest thing was a free IMAX event a la Shang-Chi
