Did a quick LA area previews sellout count for IW

40 sellouts / 477 showtimes

Only have a couple of point in time comps, here are the other comps:

One week before release comps:

Civil War - 35 sellouts / 414 showtimes

BvS - 18 sellouts / 452 showtimes

8 days before release:

Rogue One: 77 sellouts / 610 showtimes

9 days before release:

Ultron: 25 sellouts / 565 showtimes

2 months before release:

Force Awakens: 178 sellouts / 591 showtimes

The Last Jedi: 107 sellouts / 560 showtimes

Same point before release:

Guardians 2: 11 sellouts / 228 showtimes

I think showtimes will hit 700-750 in the end. Will do the next count next Wednesday after the showtime escalation.

Updated sellout report

57 sellouts / 757 showtimes

Same point comps

CA3 Thursday night sellout update for the LA area: 22 sellouts / 607 showtimes (solid increase in both)

At the same point in time, BVS had 34 sellouts / 578 showtimes

At the same point in time, ULTRON had 28 sellouts / 700 showtimes

It seems to be on track to finish right around both movies. ULTRON had way more shows, but (anecdotally) I think they were more lightly attended.

Thursday night sellout update for the LA area:

339 sellouts (+12) / 949 showtimes (+2)

In terms of the reserved seating theaters, many people seem to be scrambling to buy tickets at the new showtimes, even though (in many cases) it's the smaller screens. There are a lot of shows that are 80-90% full.

2nd local (Regal) is UP.  They have definitely started with a set above recent Marvel movies (usually they also start with 18-20 showings, like the other local - this one gets 25 in the initial set).  However, again, it has almost 6 screens for that, whereas normal Marvel movies can do those amounts on 4+ screens.  We'll see if that matters...here's the rest of the set...

NEW

Avengers IW (5.75) (19 2d / 6 3d - definitely choosing sellouts over trying to get folks to waste money on 3d)

RETURNING

I Feel Pretty (1)

Super Troopers 2 (1 - it kept the whole screen for now)

Traffik (1 - it also kept the whole screen for now)

Rampage (1)

A Quiet Place (1)

Ready Player One (.5 - 2 showings)

Black Panther (.5 - 2 showings - splits with RPO)

Blockers (.25 - takes 1st showings from an IW screen)

GONE

Everything Else:)

PS - The ST2 and Traffik showings are the most vulnerable to get swapped.  Also, for now, the theater ends its Friday night A:IW showings at 11:20pm...so it could decide to extend for the evening to add a bunch of late shows...if demand warrants above what they have...

IW previews tomorrow night at my theater:

7:00: 106/124

7:00 3D: 74/113

7:15: 60/78

7:30 3D: 48/78

7:45: 64/78

8:00 3D: 49/78

8:45 3D: 10/69

9:15: 23/78

9:45: 3/78

10:15 3D: 0/60

10:30: 100/124

10:30 3D: 40/113

Total: 577/1,071

It's already beat Black Panther's final total of 497 tickets and is running 115% ahead of that number (232.3M) :jeb!: Once these new showings start filling up, it could challenge TLJ's total of 886

Aussie news

The Avengers opened on the exact same day with $6m and then $13.3m for the regular 4 day weekend.

IW is looking at a 35-40% increase for for the OD alone. I suspect the 4 day weekend won’t jump that much.    A 10% increase puts it around $15m. That’s around $23m for the first 5 days. A 15% increase on TA

Ballpark Domestic I’d go with USD240-260.

Your theater seems to be exactly proportional to the market as a whole for those two movies' previews:

886/497 = 1.783

45.0/25.2 = 1.786

Curious if IW holds to that

THR

Tracking suggests it will open north of $225 million, but many believe it has a shot at overtaking fellow Disney pic Star Wars: The Force Awakens ($248 million) to land the top North American opening in history (Disney is being conservative in sticking to $210 million-plus).

Lol at the conservative prediction being 210+ or the third largest opener ever.

3rd largest ever and the C R U M B L I N G gifs will flow.

Even though it would be good for a top 5 adjusted OW as well.
