He ain't got a mortgage to pay?

This man is right. Garfield can keep doing his smaller stuff while being back as Spider-Man for the big ass paychecks.

what makes you think an Oscar nominated, Tony award winning actor like Garfield would want to be associated with this movie?

Cuz No Way Home showed fans still love his Spider-Man and want him to continue playing that character. Plus it would help confirm Venom and Morbius are set in the Marc Webb universe of Spider-Man movies.

The Sony fiscal year runs from April to March, with the 2022 FY beginning on April 1. Their movies have already made so much money for this fiscal year, shifting Morbius to its new date puts its entire gross under "next year" in their books. A similar sort of thing happened with Warner Bros after The Dark Knight, it made much more than they ever could have dreamed of, so they were fine with moving Harry Potter 6 from November 2008 to Summer 2009 and having the money count later on. I guess it's a problem for a studio if theatrical is two billion one year, and $200 million the next-businesses always like to seem like they are growing. It all sounds a bit greedy to the average fan, a public health excuse is way better PR. Sony probably figures people won't entirely forget about how much they love all things Spidey in two months.

It could be a bit of Column A and Column B, if they are shooting additional footage or editing it in some way...

Holy Jesus, it's been delayed 7 times now?! This feels like New Mutants all over again. They likely filmed this movie back in late 2018 through early 2019 right? Just release the damn thing and get it over with, putting it in April isn't gonna change much considering Sonic 2 and Fantastic Beasts 3 will cut into whatever potential legs the movie could've had.

If I remember correctly, the industry was still feeling the effects from the strike putting all production on hold for a while (creating a lot of open spots in the 2009 schedule), which resulted in movies like Harry Potter 6 and Star Trek getting delayed from their original Holiday 2008 dates to Summer 2009 after the marketing for them had already begun.

Talk about from frying pan into the fire! It had better shot in a dead month covid or not, but with big competition, not so much. Haven't they learned anything from Shang-Chi?

That was the official story, but this Hollywood Reporter article from 2008  also mentions revenue balancing the current year vs next, and WB freeing up their IMAX schedule so they could relaunch Dark Knight during an awards push (vs having Half Blood Prince out that fall).

It's all speculation but Sony may also have a multitude of reasons to move Morbius. Maybe they have internal data showing people would risk Omicron for No Way Home but Morbius, maybe not. Maybe they're hoping Leto gets nominated for an Oscar (his performance in Gucci has been mocked, but has hit some precursors) and they can draft off his awards publicity for Morbius hype.

Unless they're using those 3 months to add in Andrew Garfield into the movie.

Dude, he's not in this. It's already finished and in the can. And even then, you really think a 2-minute post credits scene would take that long to film?

O believe that's definitely what they're doing: shooting additional footage to get Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man in there.

If it requires some CGI, yeah, probably.

Also, it wasn't finished in December, despite being rated PG-13 last summer, when they shot new scenes with Michael Keaton to allegedly rework scenes to clarify that his Toomes in Morbius is a variant in whichever universe of Spider-Man movies that Venom and Morbius take place in, which I think is the Andrew Garfield/Marc Webb Spider-Man universe.

I mean I seriously doubt COVID is why Morbius was delayed because why is Uncharted still there? Like it makes no sense.

If It's because No Way Home overperformed, they'll wanna seize that opportunity to add in Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man into the movie to ride onto the Multiverse craze and confirm Venom and Morbius are set in Marc Webb's universe of Spider-Man movies.
