Weekend Thread - Insidious 29.6M, Jumanji 37.2M, TLJ 23.7M, TGS 13.8M, PP3 10.3

Recommended Posts

Insidious 4’s debut is spectular! Considering that it had a small drop yesterday but without previews and it’s true Friday it actually had a boost. But either way very good! Considering projections were $20-$22 million at high and $16-$20 million at low. It could make north of $60 million domestic.

Why are some people still saying that the WOM on TLJ isn't mixed?  What world are you living in?  It's obviously mixed.  It would certainly have showed better legs and wouldn't be getting killed by Jumanji.   But credit to Jumanji also.  Right movie and right time.

Seriously, one website actually says something good about Marvel and The Last Jedi and you call them crap? Whataver, this is why I'm a reader, going back to reading comments.

Dude i fuckin love marvel and Star Wars has been a staple of mine since childhood. I watched collider/amc's show for nearly 3 years, I've got nothing against them.

But that box office writeup was complete trash. Extremely biased, no analysis of the numbers, just a way for the author to push their agenda for the movies they do/do not like.

Besides, Collider has pretty much evolved into a fanboy site anyways.

Tis is true. I used to be all about them, but that and the ADS ON ADS ON ADS has turned me off. I follow Weintraub on Twitter but I'm not sure why.

Pitch Perfect finally opened at my theatre and is gonna be o/u our equivalent of 30M for the weekend. Likewise for insidious, but with 20M, pretty identical performance to Happy Death Day

I have to agree on the Collider hate. I used to like them but there's certain movies now where if the thing underperforms or doesn't quite live up to the build or has a mixed reaction they make excuse after excuse for it..   I'd prefer if they just reported the facts.

2017 domestic box office: $11,066,300,000

SW and MCU 2017 box office:

$572,513,602 + 389,813,101 + 334,201,140 + 312,478,786

1.6b or 14.4%

Or take it an other way, there is around 240m movie goers in the domestic market, around 14% of them go see an MCU movie, the vast majority don't care about those, many probably do not even know what they are.

Where you are right is: People watching youtube videos watching people talk a long time about movies they didn't even see are probably yes, mostly about big franchise, there is little to say otherwise about movie you have not seen.

That would only work if every movie goer only watched on movie a year.   Also doesn't account for people seeing a movie more than once.

I love Grace, I do! She is by far my favorite reviewer, but her BO-prediction skills are so bad. Leaving FB2 out of the WW Top 10 and including stuff like Dark Phoenix and Black Panther? Don't get me wrong, this is my most anticipated X-Men movie ever and I loved Apocalypse, but come on! There is 0% chance Dark Phoenix (or BP for that matter) makes more than FB2 WW. Actually, the only movies hat will make more are The Avengers and Jurassic World, with The Incredibles having an outside shot if OS is huge. But other than that, I don't think any other movie will come even close.
