Hopefully IFC can continue to push The Death of Stalin further along. Might not get much more than $5m, but it’s not a bad run for it.

Also, this should hopefully stay in the conversation for Screenplay awards later this year.

That’s not great for PR overseas due to China being below expectations

domestic is a little above expectations though

Our expectations. It was tracking between 25-30M so it didn't overperform that. It's still well down from the first one unadjusted.

Love, Simon's Saturday-to-Saturday and Sunday-to-Sunday drops are only 24.3% and 22.9%, respectively. Very strong weekend drop, as the opening weekend Friday was inflated not just by regular previews but also the additional previews held the weekend prior to opening.

Peace,

Mike

Pacific Rim did double what I expected it to do. I guess giant robot movies aren't completely dead yet.

The other four openers turned out to be the nonstarters they were expected to be, though. Sherlock Gnomes is certain to join the list of Most Unnecessary Sequels Ever.

Great holds for Black Panther, I Can Only Imagine, Love, Simon, and Game Night. Tomb Raider was frontloaded as expected and A Wrinkle in Time will be lucky to cross $90M at this point.

Excellent start for Isle of Dogs. We'll see how it expands between now and its supposedly wide expansion on April 13.

Game Night's PTA increased this weekend over last weekend despite the 26% overall drop. The film is indeed holding well. A great title, recognizable stars and a marketplace that has abandoned adults have all worked in its favor.

I'm wondering if AWIT and LS swap places once actuals arrive on Monday.

Will BP outgross PR:U next weekend? Seems possible to me.

"BP is Big Only Cause Politics" = New "Avatar Is Big Only Cause 3D" = New "TDK Is Big Only Cause Ledger Died"

Movies don't get this big if they aren't genuinely loved at least at the time of their release. People may revise them later when they leave cinemas and hit home theaters, but legs/repeat business of this kind doesn't happen cause of gimmick.

Where is this alleged backlash you guys are referring to?  Two or three people saying they liked it but didn't love or or a few people saying they didn't like it at all, isn't backlash.  Not everyone is going to love every blockbuster.  That's reality and not backlash.  Black Panther has hit the zeitgiest.  Most people love it.  You aren't going to get nor should you expect everyone to love the movie.

For me personally, I've been disinterested in most of what Marvel has done post Avengers (2012).  And I'm not even saying I disliked BP, I gave it an 8/10.  So what backlash are you guys talking about?  Are you honestly expecting everyone to love it?
