Will BP outgross PR:U next weekend? Seems possible to me.

The first movie dropped 57.1% in its second weekend against The Conjuring. I imagine it'll only be worse for this one being a sequel and direct competition from Ready Player One.

Everyone I know saw it loved it, but then again I don't know many white people outside of work so maybe they feel differently.

But again, she is one person.  The film is going to be the number three film of all time.  Safe to say it's more than just black people who like the movie.  There are plenty of white people who love it.  You just can't expect everyone to love it.  That's not realistic.

Where is this alleged backlash you guys are referring to?  Two or three people saying they liked it but didn't love or or a few people saying they didn't like it at all, isn't backlash.  Not everyone is going to love every blockbuster.  That's reality and not backlash.  Black Panther has hit the zeitgiest.  Most people love it.  You aren't going to get nor should you expect everyone to love the movie.

For me personally, I've been disinterested in most of what Marvel has done post Avengers (2012).  And I'm not even saying I disliked BP, I gave it an 8/10.  So what backlash are you guys talking about?  Are you honestly expecting everyone to love it?

Lots of truth in this. The only blockbuster of this decade where everyone can agree that everyone loves it, after all is Jurassic World @Trolltastic Tele @Empire, so thats a special case.

Honestly though, movies are art and art is always subjective.

It’s legs are the reason I went to see it, but just didn’t click with me. It was ok. Not laugh out loud, more just smirks.

I felt the same way.  I liked it but it didn't connect with me in a big way.

It'll be close, but it should still outgross BP. A 50% drop for BP puts it at 8m. I expect PRU to make between 11-15m(probably the bottom of that).

Black Panther is now the highest grossing comic book film of all time, with its 6th weekend gross again the best.

Its legs for a February opener, and one that opened to a holiday-inflated $202M, are exceptional. It has already matched the final multiplier of Jurassic World (3.12) and still has a ways to go.

Yeah, where is the backlash to BP? It's certainly not present at the box office or in how its fans reacted to it or in how it generated massive buzz and respect within society.

I liked the film more than Baumer did, perhaps a 9 or 9.5 from me. However, I am open to the possibility of people genuinely disliking the film, provided of course, those reasons are not based wholly on the race of the movie's cast. From what I have seen, many of the Americans who dislike the film are doing so only for bigoted reasons.

With that TC next week, it's basically locked for the top 10. I can see it going as high as seventh if Love, Simon drops over 50% :jeb!:

What's the budget for IOD? Can't imagine it's more than $30-40m.

What's the budget for IOD? Can't imagine it's more than $30-40m.

Fantastic Mr Fox had a budget of 40M, so I wouldn't be surprised if the budget on this is 50M.

Easter weekend leads to harsher drops for holdovers because basically everything decreases on Saturday. Easter Monday evens that out with low decreases from Sunday. Plus, I imagine Tomb Raider will face a substantial TC loss around 600-700 theaters.

$50m would be fine, Early Man and Pirates! from Aardman were in that range and Laika films are only slightly higher at $60m. The Grand Budapest Hotel was so profitable for Fox Searchlight that they could risk given Wes Anderson a higher budget film

Pacific Rim: Uprising had a so-so opening weekend. It's down about 24.5% from the first film's opening, but it could have been much worse with the long sequel gap and the turnover in personnel on both sides of the camera. The road to profitability may still be long even with big overseas numbers, but it's no fiasco.

Black Panther is still kicking ass. It's up to 40th on the all-time adjusted list and will soon surpass Spider-Man on said list.

I Can Only Imagine held up really well. Based upon the strength of the hold, the anemic performance of Paul: Apostle of Christ further down the top ten, and the lack of buzz surrounding God's Not Dead 3: Persecution Complex Maximized, it should have little trouble continuing to be the top explicitly Christian draw over Easter weekend.

Sherlock Gnomes whiffed, as expected. Gnomeo & Juliet remains one of the most shocking and inexplicable over-performances of the decade, so it makes sense that the sequel would drop heavily.

Tomb Raider had a weak hold, and the coming weekends are unlikely to be kind to it. Even with 15 years of inflation working in its favor, it won't top the gross of Cradle of Life.

Love, Simon had a very encouraging hold. It will undoubtedly have a long life on home video, but some level of theatrical success is also nice.

Isle of Dogs isn't performing as well as Grand Budapest Hotel - which had a higher average from more theaters in its second weekend of play - but it's still off to a really solid start in limited release.
