Rampage lost 15% of its theaters this week. Theater losses now take effect on Thursday evenings instead of Friday due to the Thursday event kick-off for new releases now.

Not only that but Rampage dropped from two or three screens to a single screen at many locations (and from three or more to just two). The same is true for A Quiet Place and pretty much all of the holdovers. Anything that is not AIW is down to a single screen at most cineplexes with 6-15 or so screens.

next week should not loose to many film bookings.  Rampage, AQP, or anything that has around 6-10 showings per day should continue to shrink and the 3 new openers are opening moderately and probably one screen per film.

I'd be pretty surprised if A Quiet Place, Rampage, and I Feel Pretty dropped more than 100-150 theaters next week; the vast majority of theaters that are getting the new openers won't be dropping those three. Super Troopers should hang on pretty well too, though I could see it going below 2k theaters. The main targets will be Traffik, Truth or Dare, Ready Player One, and Blockers, but even they won't lose too many screens (outside of Traffik).

Commando is such an awesome movie.

Remember, Sully, when I promised to kill you last?

That's right, Matrix! You did!

I lied. *drop*

Don't get me started on quoting Commando.  it'll spiral out of control and then guys like you, me and VC2002 will spend the next few pages laughing our behinds off.

But you want to compare Summer Movies to winter movies, or you're going to bump IW down 40-80M to compare to the summer movies. So you're going to apply the same rule to them that way?

nope.  Not applying any rules.  I fully own up to my optimism about this movie is gut feeling (in context of what data we have about presales/tracking) and having liked the movie a lot

WoM was why it's Friday gross was almost 50% of the total weekend

that's how openers on Easter weekend behave. Friday is half a holiday and gets inflated, and Easter Sunday is a bit weaker than normal.

Furious7 behaved similarly a year before BVS : 67.4, 46.6, 33.1. It's Sun is less than half of Friday but the overall multiplier was vastly better than BVS at 2.40x vs 1.99x

EDIT: And so summer begins early in late April. Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War scored $39 million Thursday night, making it easily the best Marvel preview number ever stepping over Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6M), and the fourth-best ever behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ first night ($57M), Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($45M) and Harry Potter:Deathly Hallows Part 2 ($43.5M)

EXCLUSIVE: And so summer begins early in late April. We have very early industry estimates showing Disney/Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War between $40M-$45M for Thursday night, and west coast showtimes have yet to kick in. Should that projection maintain into the night, it would easily be the best Marvel preview ever, stepping over Avengers: Age of Ultron ($27.6M) and the second best ever tying with Star Wars: The Last Jedi ($45M) and filing behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens first night ($57M).

LOL so they adjusted the estimate but are acting like they said this last night before west coast showtimes.

Sure hope no other massive blockbusters made 50% of their OW total on Friday. Certainly not ones with really good word of mouth that made nearly 4x over their OW. released within three months of BvS. That'd just make your post really awkward.
