the bonus of being the first female lead SH film in over a decade.

That is the exact opposite of what people were saying two years before release.

(If a female superhero was a clear bonus, why didn't Disney make one in the last 10 years?)

:Venom:

In general, being part of another "cinematic universe" scam has obviously improved the box office success of non-Batman DC characters by a huge margin. Remember Constantine or Catwoman?

Likewise, Venom will get even bigger when news leak of a post-credit scene with Tom Holland.

I remember reading posts where people said there wasn’t enough women interested in Superheroes for a female superhero to make money.

things changed very quick.

Conventional wisdom from many people on here and in Hollywood claimed that not enough people wanted to see Wonder Woman. Read the entire Wonder Woman thread here, so many said that it would flop.  People kept comparing her to Ant-Man domestically.

I remember ppl comparing Black Panther to Ant-Man!

Lots of times audiences are ready for a thing and goobers on the net and in Hwood haven't wised up yet

I'm with Zak on this. Could have a pretty good opening, but probably really bad legs if it sucks, especially with all the competition in October. Halloween is definitely gonna get a ton of attention in the later half of October, and there's also First Man, Bad Times at The El Royale and A Star Is Born coming either at the same time or after Venom.

El Royale is a flop in the making, think Hotel Artemis. Halloween, Goosebumps, A Star is Born, and First Man all look better than this however.

El Royale definitely has an uphill battle, but I would argue the marketing for it has been way better than Hotel Artemis' so far. We'll just have to see how the rest of its campaign does.

And I forgot about Goosebumps too. I think it's a really dumb move by Sony to release it and Venom one week apart, but hey, they could both do decently. And Universal is doing the same with First Man and Halloween, and both are looking to make good numbers.

I can't believe some of these insane OW predictions I'm seeing here. If this thing does $100 million opening weekend in the U.S. alone, I'm officially done with humanity.  But so is this movie, it seems...
