Lowered expectations doesn't make a disappointing opening good.  We'll see how the legs suss out.  Cinemascore will tell us nothing. A- Cinemascores for blockbusters especially tells us nothing.

Good opening for JW. Should clear 400M domestic if that $145M+ number holds.

 

Worldwide it will be interesting to see which one wins. Both are looking to finish around 1.2B.

How is it disappointing when JW 1 broke records because of nostalgia? 

 

18 years of nostalgia vs 3 years..

 

 

I think it's doing alright considering alot of people (me included) were predicting close to $100M OW based on presales and data just few days ago.

Crazy good hold for DP2. Very solid for O8 too. I2 jumped 50% plus from yesterday which doesn't happen often for movies in summer. AIW took a bit of a hit but that was expected with JW:FK opening.

I can't. Some of you were literally predicting a sub 100M opening for the movie yesterday and now y'all are acting like a 145M one is disappointing, lol.

Just because a lot of people pretended like the Jurassic series was ever about pre-sales/performed like comic book movies doesn't mean a thing. The opening is disappointing considering the last film's opening.

The movie is making 145M OW, 375M+ domestic, and 1B+ WW.  These are numbers that many films would kill for.  It’s going to make shitloads of money for Universal.  Don’t see why they’d be disappointed.

I'm not a hater. I liked Jurassic World and I was never rooting on FK to flop. I'm in a 500mil for I2 and FK club. I didn't make a formal last prediction but I thought those under 100mil predictions were garbage put out there by hardcore Disney fans that wanted revenge for JW doing far better than AOU at the domestic box office. AOU and TLJ opening weekends were good, they retained well.  I don't see 145mil opening after 208mil opening as good period.  I'm not calling the movie a bomb or flop,  I'm simply saying that the opening is disappointing.

That’s a great hold for Oceans 8 despite the drop in theatre count. Congrats on passing $100m too.

 

Hereditary lost a third of its locations, so 51% isn’t bad either.
