BOX OFFICE THEORY WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM WEEKEND THREAD | 150 OW OFFICIAL ESTIMATE | No Spoilers, Read Rules First Post! | First Post Updated with Sale Info

I’d say the chances of JW2 reaching 400 million in the U.S (a number that it would easily pass according to most people celebrating) is about zero after the Friday number. A realistic target would be between 370-380 million, a nice almost 300 million drop from the first.

I just realized that JW2 somehow had a better preview to Friday ratio than I2 did....

....what the fucking fuck?!

I'm guessing Incredibles 2 had more upfront demand considering it was a long-awaited sequel to a movie from well over 10 years ago.

The fact that this terrific book which is only around 250 pages has to be an HBO limited series rather than a feature speaks volumes about the sad state of movies.

But this says it's going to be a series.  Maybe HBO made a huge bid for it.

Not surprising imo (not joking btw). JP/JW are just not previews-heavy at all since really, there is nothing to spoil. And Incredibles had a certain rush factor, since it was so highly anticipated by the fanbase of the first.

I ain't complaining. Big Little Lies was amazing and felt like a movie despite being a miniseries, so I'm expecting the same here

Probably, but animation is often notorious for far better IMs than normal, and JW2 is coming off of a $200m opener. So it’s definitely still a bit of a shock.

i definitely understand the pent up demand, but even with that taken into account I would have been way off base.

I feel a little bit sorry for @The Incredible Panda though, Incredibles might have a very hard time to reach 600M now.

Yes, so 600 is basically dead...imo.  It would need some really stellar holds to get there.

On the upside, Disney will have 3 movies to hit $700M+, $600M+, and $500M+ in the same year. Now that's :ohmygod:

Yes, those same trolls that didn't ask for a sequel to JW had it dropping over 50% in is opening weekend.

I predicted a low opening and got it wrong, that doesn't make me a troll, that's pathetic

Predicting a low opening doesn't make you a troll.  Of course not.  But it does seem a little strange for someone to predict it to go under 100 million.

Sharp Objects is gonna be the one show everybody on BOT gets behind this year. The power of the real Amazing Amy.

not sure. for me it's flynn's worst book by a longshot. and the writer adapting doesn't have much strong work under her belt. and i loved big little lies more than any movie that came out last year but JMV has made movies of varying quality to say the least. wouldn't be surprised if it's underwhelming tbh.
