Lots of dropped theaters and lost screens will do that to you:)...

Deadpool dropped just as many theatres and it still increased by 70%.  So why did the only two Disney movies in the top ten (not named I2) not increase well on Friday?  I'm going with funneling money to I2...it's more fun that way.  :)

I don't know how anyone could be disappointed by Fallen Kingdom's opening. The movie looked like it had nothing really new to offer and the previous movie used up the nostalgia card. That it's looking at such a decent retention percentage makes it a winner.

Some theaters cut Solo and Avengers down to two showtimes a day since they're on their way out (some theaters also even have them sharing a screen).

I2 will stabilize big in the 3rd weekend imo. Like MikeQ mentioned above 3 things stacked against it ,

1) OD Friday with previews to normal Friday drop

2)  FD Sun to normal Sunday drop

3) JW2 as competition.

After 78-79 2nd weekend could do -45% for 43-44.

nobody is disappointed but the trolls who wanted the film to fail. Everybody else including the studio is perfectly happy with a 150 million opening especially since it was tracking to do 125 to 135 million.

Deadpool still hanging on strong. It looks poised to make ~$315-$320M - I consider that to be darn strong retention from the original's $363M final domestic tally.

Peace,

Mike

Random fun fact:

Incredibles 2 is the highest grossing opener (182.7M) to be #1 on its first weekend and then immediately usurped on its second weekend.

Next highest openers that opened at #1 and were immediately supplanted:

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 (2011) 169.2M

(fell 72% in its second weekend and supplanted by Captain America: The First Avenger)

Deadpool 2 (2018)125.5M

(supplanted by Solo’s 84.4M opening)

Shrek the Third (2007) 121.6M

(supplanted by POTC: At World’s End’s 114.7M opening)

For me, this underscores the rarity and enormity of having two openers back-to-back open to such huge numbers - especially $182.7M and ~$145M, respectively.

The only comparison to me seems like Shrek the Third and At World’s End both easily opening over $100M back-to-back in 2007.

Peace,

Mike

I'm so puzzled by the BP weekend estimate?!:winomg:

They are adding 1000 theatres on Saturday and only Disney executives are invited to those showings.  :sparta:

I'm going to start calling you Mik-i-pedia.

Seriously, how do you come up with some of this stuff?

Brilliant!

Lying about someone and calling them a troll for pointing out a disappointing friday number is pathetic. I NEVER wanted FK to fail even once.  And it is a stone cold lie to say that I did. I'm not hiding anything. I'm satisfied that useless Han Solow movie flopped. I simply think JW: FK big drop from it's predecessor is disappointing. Feel free to disagree but don't lie on me.
