They are really not competing. That logic holds if the rest of the market is stuffed with other options for moviegoers. That isn't the case here. It is a relatively average number of film options mainly from one studio. I see virtually no risk of cannibalizing each other.

It appears that there isn't even a teaser in front of Blue Beetle. It's Dune Part 2 and Wonka instead. It's probably not coming out this year.

Still 4 months away, we’ve seen WB starting marketing campaigns later than this 

 

Yeah it’s weird but considering how messy the production was, is understandable. 
 

This is the one movie everyone in the industry keeps saying it’s firmly on it’s date, no reason for thinking it’s delayed.

They probably edit some scene to makes Aquaman fits with new DCU story. Also holiday is the only right date for Aquaman.

No they aren't, I don't believe Wonka and TCP have audience overlap, neither does Aquaman 2. Alvin and the Chipmunks didn't hurt Avatar. Little Women didn't hurt Jumanji.

December is the best possible time to release this, especially if WB isn’t very confident in it. Might as well get it over with. I’m sure that’s what James Wan wants too.

Also, if this were to move, I know Wonka/Color Purple are still there, but December becomes mostly barren. That would be just throwing away money.

Well there’s still Wonka, The Color Purple, and Migration in December so it’s not totally barren. Plus November is packed so one of those movies could easily replace it.

Those three movies alone wouldn’t sustain the month of December. They need a big action tentpole for the sake of counterprogramming.

They're clearly trying hard to fix whatever problems it has with all these reshoots. And that doesn't always mean the final result is bad. First Class had a ton of reshoots and I would make the case it's the best X-Men movie, easily top 3 at minimum.

What's clear from this year so far is that the people at WB have no idea when their DC movies are good or bad, so the reactions to this one are definitely not a forgone conclusion.

It'll be interesting to see if thisll have the strong legs the first one did, though I guess that'll mainly come down to WOM vs just the regular holiday legs

If WB delays this movie it will bomb horrendously and they will deserve it. And it will probably hurt Superman Legacy because there will be less time in between the two universes.

I actually agree, this needs to be released this December one way or another. WB needs to put as much time as possible between the dying pieces of the DCU and the Gunn movies.

 

 I just hope this is a fun adventure like the first one, but it really won’t do well outside this date either way…

I mentioned this on the weekend thread but they should just swap dates with Dune at this point. Put it out in November and just get this old universe over with while giving some more space between the old universe and the new one with Superman.

There’s no way they’d open this movie a week before The Marvels. Even if you think that movie won’t do well either, there’s no point in sabotaging this film completely by opening it right before another CBM. WB has made some bad choices this year but Aquaman 2’s December date isn’t one of them. Dune 2 on the other hand feels like a movie that could do well in a lot of different slots and will be fine in its November date (and also fine if it gets pushed to next year).
